  1. Fastball was at 98 past the 5th inning, his curveball looked unhittable. Went (i think) 6 1/3 and gave up 4 hits, handfull of strikeouts. I would say the hype around him at this time is warranted. His pitch count went up this game, so I think one more start and he will be in the Majors.

  2. I saw him twice in AA. He looked great. The kid has an incredible delivery at his age.

I think he'll be the real deal whenever he gets called up.
  3. ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Stephen Strasburg had another dominant outing, giving up just three hits and striking out nine in 6 1/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday night.

Strasburg, the top pick in the 2009 draft by the Washington Nationals, walked two against Rochester while improving to 3-0 for the Chiefs. The 21-year-old right-hander has not allowed a run in 18 1/3 innings at the minors' highest level.

He topped out at 99 mph four times, according to the ballpark radar gun, and finished strong, striking out six of the final seven batters he faced

    lol that's what i was thinking...12 K/9 is decent
  6. He made guys look foolish all night, I knew he threw hard, but I didn't know his breaking pitch would be so unhittable as well. I bought a bunch of tix when I first heard he was coming, my mom ended up coming and she started complaining about how it was unfair they let him pitch at that level...lolollool

Francisco Liriano pitched for the Redwings back in 05, I saw two of his starts and he was phenomenal. Doesn't really compare to what I saw out of Strasburg though...

  7. whats nasty bout strasy is yea he throws ched but more impressive is he paints 98+ down in the zone which is extremely hard for guys that throw this hard to do. Most guys miss high. Features an abs dirty slider thats breaks hard and fast. IF he ever develops a lincy type change he can make a running for best pitching prospect of our generation (stayin healthy of course)

  8. sure hope he lives up to the hype. the list of super stars that missed is longer than my left arm. prior cleans my pool and wood is a poster boy for the dl.

anybody catch the front page of the sports section in todays las vegas rj?
  9. i almost want him to fail just because of the absurd amount of attention he gets. nothing against him just all the people who wanna watch him tear apart A ballers and want to see him in the majors immed.

how many top prospects make it to the highest level and bust? you just never know... and esp with pitchers. thats a huge injury-plagued position. and an injury could linger for years like prior or just turn him into a shall of a pitcher like countless others. and thats if he has success.

just call him a top prospect, maybe take a flyer on him in middle rounds of fantasy drafts and wait and see imo.

there should never be this amount of hype over a prospect unless he can throw and catch a bat midswing.
  10. I have a bet with my friend that Strasburg gets min 8 wins this year...I like my side...

not a big fan...simply because he will be on some kind of innings limit.

he won't be able to pitch deep into games, and will get a TON of no decisions...Tyler Clippard is already 7-3 out of the Nats bullpen, which means their 'pen is blowing leads late.

wouldn't be surprised to see him end up like 7-4 over like ~20 starts.

pretty solid bet, though...i bet the line would be somewhere around 7.5 or 8.

u must live a happy and fulfilling life
  14. like i said, not because i resent him, just to spite all the people who think hes such hot shit before his debut. i mean, this is the 2nd thread ive read where people are betting on a kid whos never pitched in the majors to get 8 or even more wins for a mediocre team when he might not see his first start before the all-star break.

being from chicagoland, i remember wood and prior very well. ive seen quite a few encores of woods 5th start against houston.

those guys actually had success at the big league level and look where they are now. i just think it's absurd. it's not like i resent or am jealous of strasburg, i just wanna laugh at people who think he deserves all this hype. but i wont be able to do that if he wins 12 games for the nats this year.
  15. I watched it as well, I hope he stays healthy. How many pitchers do we get to follow this closely right out of the gate? Usually we don't hear of them until they start dominating in the minors, but he was on our radar before he was even drafted.
  16. i greatly look forward to the Red Sox and Yankees bidding 50 million a year for him in 2017
  17. As a Philly fan I hate that he's a National...that being said, I can't wait to play him...or McNabb...ffs, #1 pick in the draft, best hockey player in the world (or close enough), must be nice to be a Washington fan for a change.
  18. Gotta love the young talents coming to DC. Strasburg, and perhaps John Wall (Wizards) and Bryce Harper (Nationals).

My friend and I plan to catch some tickets to his major league debut which I'm 99% certain will be at home. Hopefully we can score some awesome seats.

EDIT: He won't be coming to the majors until at least mid-June for arbitration purposes. So i expect 2-3 more starts in the minors before coming up.

The word on the street is that he's going to make his Nats debut on June 4th. That would give him 2 more starts at AAA

  21. It's definitely not a lock and probably isn't even the best side of the bet.

He gets called up in June and shut down in September. He makes an absolute max of 20 starts. He probably doesn't throw more than 100 pitches in any game so even if he experiences no adjustment phase or poor outings or whatever his team has to give him a few runs and his bullpen has to hold the lead for 3 innings in half his starts. If he gives up 1 run over 6 innings in 20 starts he probably wins like 13. Look at Greinke for how easy it is to not get wins while pitching for bad teams.

edit: I take back the "probably isn't the best side of the bet." I think 8 is the perfect line. either side is an okay bet.

    tho
  23. He should be up already! The Nats are competing! He's the best pitcher on the staff! He would be dominating in the majors right now! I can't decide if I want to use CAPS LOCK! All this to save $18 in four years! I can't believe the fans are letting them get away with this!

Should be a bigger news story, in my opinion.
  24. Mike Leake was in that same draft, and while he may not have the over powering stuff of Strasburg he has been kicking ass so far this year for the Reds.

I'd like that side...if he were in a contender's farm system.

He just won't get that many win ops for the Nats. Unless, of course, they don't restrict his innings or limit his pitch count when he gets up there.
  26. Bodog just set over/under win total for 2010 at 7.5.
