The Minnesota Vikings reached a contract extension with Brad Childress that will keep the coach with the team through the 2013 season, a source told ESPN.com Thursday.
Financial terms weren't immediately available but it is believed to be between $4 million and $5 million a year, the source said. In 2006, Childress signed a five-year, $10 million contract, which was scheduled to expire after the 2010 season.
They were lucky to keep Childress imo. I am pretty sure every team in the league would love to have them as their coach.

Of course I am serious. The guy is a pure football genius. How many coaches would look at someone like AP and be tempted to give him the ball 20+ carries a game? Childress knows not to over use him and gives him the proper rest he needs(usually on 3rd downs or when the game is on the line). I give 100% credit to the Vikings success to this great man.

As much as I'd love to have my head coach ensure that the opponent would always be let back into the game, hang around and be given a chance to win when the game should have been over less than halfway through the fourth quarter, he would def be my guy.
He's a good coach. He's not great. His teams have terrible tendencies to let others hang around and stay in ball games that should be over. His clock management is questionable. He quite possibly has the most talented team in the league, so it's not like he's working miracles. That said, his team is 8-1 on the year and arguably the best team in football. So you have to give credit where credit is due.
In summary, he is better than Mike Tice.
Edit, it's a level. That said, he obviously deserves some credit for what his team has accomplished this year. The guy has his flaws, but he's done alright. I wouldn't be doing backflips over resigning the guy (and you're not, because it's a level, which I just found out two seconds ago), but you have to be happy with what he's done this season. -
The guy has a football mind like no other. Personally I think he is right up there with the all time coaching greats. It would not surprise me at all when he retires they rename the Lombardi Trophy after him.

Childress is definately the man needed in Minnesota.. They have no talent and would be 0-9 without him. They have an ancient QB, no wideouts, no playmakers and a fumble prown halfback. They have Dlineman that cant stay out of trouble and they lost Darren Sharper to the Saints. They should just trade most of the team away and let Childress rebuild it into a powerhoue like the Pats.

You're bad at the level game. Try harder or less.

I don't think the Vikings have played a team with a winning record this year except for the Steelers.......who they lost to.
