  1. Here's the Back Story (cliff notes at the bottom):

My friend (convienently named Snacks) got married June of 2007 and as of January 2007 weighed 295lbs. He was able drop down to 240 by the time he got married over the period of 6 months. He cut out all sweets, sodas, cut back on food and went to Golds 3 times a week for at least an hour to play ball or take a class. He does not drink but loves food more than sex (that is for another day/time). He routinely eats a huge bowl of cereal for breakfast at home, then proceeds to eat his lunch that his wife packs around 10am for brunch, typically will hit a pizza or chinese buffet for lunch, and of course grazes throughout the afternoon before heading home to eat dinner and crush a bowl or 3 of ice cream before bed. Amazingly he's still a pretty athletic guy (played goalie in college and is a hell of a softball player ...well, sometimes lol).

As of this morning, Snacks is 315lbs and is looking to make a prop bet with me to lose a certain amount of weight by the end of this year.

I think that he could easily lose 55 lbs before year end but he seems to think that's way too much in that time period. When you break it out it comes out to 3lbs/week for the next 18 weeks.

We couldn't settle the terms so we're going to leave it up to OT. How much weight do you think is doable in 18 weeks and what kind of odds should be placed on the bet of $500.

    Cliff Notes:

Friend was 240 when he got married 2 yrs ago

He is 315 now and wants a prop bet to lose weight

How much weight and what odds by 12/31/09?
  2. back to 240 by the end of the year.

    1.5:1
  3. How big is the wife?
  4. She's actually probably like 120 or so and pretty hot. Don't ask be how it happened. I guess he's just one of those nice guys lol.

How have you managed to do it? I've been trying to lose weight with the Abs diet, mangaged to lose about 10lbs in first few weeks but then hurt my back at work a few weeks ago and things seemed to have slowed down since. Whats your secret?

edit: looking to lose about another 15 - 20 lbs
  10. 3 to 5 miles a day as well, drink a shit load of water! Just go out and do shit!

I am always fighting my weight. So i know how to loose weight very well. It's all about the cardio. Setup a good clean diet and do atleast 1 hour of cardio 5 times a week and the weight will come off pretty quickly. Also try and vary it up so you body doesnt get use to the same thing.

I am currently in my "gotta loose weight" for PRT (Physical Rediness Test) in Nov. I can pass the PRT easily but my weight/BMI has to be under a certain point. So i always find myself having to get down come measurement time.

  12. Maybe he should have more sex and then he would lose the weight.
  13. I would agree but it seems that the only way he'll have sex is if there's a sandwich waiting for him when it's over.

  14. I would say 1.5 to 1 to get to anywhere from 250-265. Obviously the closer to 250 the better chance you have.
  15. You can make it 30 lbs... chances are he's not losing the weight. I hate to sound pessimistic, but overweight people are overweight for a reason. A bet or monetary reward usually isn't enough motivation. If you hated exercise and eating healthy before, is $600 really going to change that?

People are always looking for ways to motivate themselves. Sadly, it only exists within. Most overweight people (not all of them) don't have it and will never have it.
  16. Very true what Giga says. Sad, but true. If people want to lose it is has to come from them first and foremost. Another thing thats working against people and causing this epidemic is in the food. It's absolutely absurd what is in the food people are eating. They are just not aware of the nutritional numbers of the crap that is readily overabundant. Not only is a lot of the food bad for you, it is ridiculously bad for you and portions you are getting give people the sat fat, calories, sodium, cholesterol, sugar of a whole day or a few days in one meal. Add that with 3x a day for months or years and we have the problem we have.

IMO there needs to be restaurant reform where restaurants are forced to put the nutrional information of each dish on the menu. It is a cycle of unhealthiness that is weighing down our healthcare system as well, pun intended.
