I had a drug induced epiphany like experience at a phish show that indeed changed my life forever
-
Do all you Phish fans dance real weird at the concerts?
Went to a Trey show one time and my friends tried to pressure me into dancing real weird like everyone else and I said hell no I'll just stand and watch Trey instead -
hey if youre feeling the groove might as well roll with it
i dont think any dancing i do is weird but im not getting really into it like some of the people there
i dont really think anyone at a show is weird...ive seen some strange shit but hey everyones different
i never could really get into metal..most of it is angry music with no substance
love zepplin, love the stones, love the crowes, love the dead and love phish
phish can take your mind to another place -
Disagree very much about metal not having substance and being angry I think the exact opposite although you may be viewing metal as screaming type stuff which I don't listen to - that's just one sub-genre of metal.

I guess weird was the wrong word for the dancing I saw, it was just different. I was sober tho and probably alone in that regard lol
Also Zeppelin is a huge influence on metal -

Can someone explain to me how a concert changes their lives?
Did u meet urlwife or something?
I get how music can help people. they often can relate to the words in a song
But a concert? Explain plz
it is not just the physical concert ( like meeting your wife etc even tho that would be by definition life changing lol) but rather a specific show makes you so happy that it takes you to such a realm of musical appreciation that it changes you spirtually and makes you better off for it. it also has alot to do with how listening to a cd would never compare to hearing a band live. Also if you love the band you will have a much higher chance of having a life changing show, where as if you dont like phish and went you probably would not have a life changing show at the sane show someone else did... its obv pretty complicated but yea thats the best way i can explain it. also you usually will have alot of your friends around that also love the band and that can add to the experience. so lots of factors are involved.
Its not like life changing like you walk out of the show and you can now get any job you want or are a master at poker or anything. its just you walk out the show and you realize you were on such a plane of musical appreciation combined with you spirtually feel stronger after it/because of it? it will hit your joygasm button of your soul so to speak... but again you would have to love said band an awful lot to feel this way... -
i say this alot but music is in the eye of the beholder... there isnt one right band, it depends on who you are and what you like? any concert can be a life changer if you love that band. they are just different. and for what its worth, metal has some of the best guitarists around. its just not my personal thing but i respect their talent. so i can easily see how if you love metal you can have a life changing show, as I'm sure some metal shows are better then others. I can appreciate how people would get into metal, just as I can appreciate how people think phish is bad because it obviously isnt there thing. no one is right or wrong just different music/ people...

so short version metal can take you to another place if you are deep into metal. and as I said I'm sure there are decent shows, good shows, and amazing shows for metal, the same as phish has decent shows, good shows, and great shows... -
Edited By: Lengthwise905 Oct 25th, 2012 at 09:27 PMnot all but alot. Trey is alot softer then phish (even tho I see trey was shredding alot more in the old school TAB). I just went to my first Trey show in Chicago Theater and it was fun but not (to me) the same kind of intensity as Phish is. Trey has alot more to do with all the instruments playing together with some guitar solos...Originally Posted by coolhandkev

I think the weird dancing has alot to do with how into Phish people are, alot like how metal bands do like the mosh pit stuff, the weird Phish dancing is like getting really into the music. also alot of times drugs are also involved haha. but not 100% that. I have had phish shows were i am crazy dancing or just sitting around with friends. depends but yea i think its more really loving the music and getting caught up in it. -
This is one of my fav Trey solo... if you dont like the song skip to the 4min mark...

I love his rocking on stage like a wildman haha the build up to 6:19 is just perfect.
same show this sample in a jar just shreds again dont like the song skip to the 3:10 mark
this one is a classic trey TCOB 4:30

I think u guys are saying u had a somewhat spiritual like experience and its brought more internal peace and hapiness to ur life.

Being a recovering alchy I completely understand that -
I try not to booze cuz i wish i was a recovering alchy. so i really respect that of ya preston. but yea its hard to fully explain. And many factors can add to this, but usually the show has to be very complete. Phish shows now a days arent like they were in their prime. but they do show moments in every show and sometimes they have complete shows that are unreal...

Also, I have had life changers where I was not on drugs but 100% sober not even drunk... So its not just when your on drugs or drinking this can happen. Its mostly the great show brings you to a level of happiness/ musical appreciation that blows your mind.
this show was also a life changer for me and I was 100% sober
this first set was pretty awesome too

Steal away before the dawn And bring us back good news But if you've tread in primal soup Please wipe it from your shoes
Just then a porthole pirate scourged The evening with his cry And sanctuary bugs deprived A monkey of its thigh
A dust arose and clogged my nose Before I could blink twice Despite this stuff that bubbled up I gave some last advice
"The flesh from Satan's dogs will make The rudiments of gruel Deduct the carrots from your pay You worthless swampy fool"
Exploding then through fields and fen And swimming in the mire The septic maiden's gargoyle tooth Demented me with fire
I drifted where the current chose Afloat upon my back And if perchance a newt slimed by I'd stuff it in my sack
Soon I felt a bubble form Somewhere below my skin But with handy spine of hedgehog I removed the force within
Suzie then removed her mask And caused a mighty stir The angry mob responded Taking turns at grabbing her
The foggy cavern's musty grime Appeared within my palm I snatched Rick's fork to scrape it off With deadly icy calm
The crowd meanwhile had taken Sue And used her like a rag To mop the slime from where the slug Had slithered with the bag
In summing up, the moral seems A little bit obscure
Give the director a serpent deflector A mudrat detector, a ribbon reflector A cushion convector, a pitcher of nectar A virile dissector, a hormone collector
Whatever you do, Take care of your shoes!
very hot set
my fav was weigh, the ending of bathtub gin, maze, cavern, first tube... but its all sick -
We've got it simple
Cause we've got a band
And we've got cymbals in the band
We've got it simple
Cause we've got a band
And we've got cymbals in the band
What is a band without cymbals?
Ooh ooh cymbals are grand
We've got a saxophone
Cause we've got a band
And we've got a saxophone in the band
We've got a saxophone
Cause we've got a band
And we've got saxophone in the band
What is a band without saxophone
Ooh ooh saxophone is grand
Cymbals and saxophones
Saxophones and cymbals (2x)
We've got Be-bop
Cause we've got a band
And we play Be-bop in the band
We've got skyscraper
And it sings a pretty tune
Every band needs skyscraper too
What is a band without skyscraper
Ooh ooh skyscraper is grand

fuck, didn't let me embed starting at the hood. The whole show is good, but esp. the hood starting around 21:30. The YEM, jim and mike's groove are really good too. -
of course I love old school phish! i just am younger my first show was in 99... so i just have to enjoy what is still around. I do agree YEM is the best phish song as far as all instruments and if you've never heard of phish you should listen to YEM studio and decide IMO. trust me i wish i could be older and go back and do phish from old days on but that wasnt in the cards for me. i listened to phish for the first time at age 12 in 1994. and was hooked lawn boy reba was the first song i heard! my first show shouldve been 8-1-98 tho but oh well again, old phish is obv the nuts but i just look to the future and phish is heating up again! future is all we got the past are just memories...
Edited By: Lengthwise905 Oct 26th, 2012 at 04:40 AM

Ive listed to this a shitload of times, can stream on nugs.net/stash (dl their andriod app today, maybe i was doing it wrong but sucked dick)
-
haha almost posted the nugs link, but decided to search youtube first to see if someone had uploaded it finally. Been listening to that free stash for like a decade now. So much good shit in there and not just the phish either.
reba from new years 95 has pretty much been my fav phish jam since I first heard it on there way back in the day.
-
phish always rages 1.0 2.0 3.0 4.0? just sick! one of the best bands ever if not the best :P Grateful Dead than Phish in my book. so many great bands tho. again phish will have a 30th anniversary festival i think we should all do a meet up and p5 rage to phish?
-
think thats a great plan - just found another old version, description mentions poop jam which Ive never heard of even
Edited By: tommpat2000 Oct 26th, 2012 at 05:18 AM
also - god damn I need dope man to stop by but dont have enough cash and too drunk to go to ATM (first world prob?)

also this shit give so much - i want to either smash something or fall in love with it (more like both at the same time) body just wants to jump out of it self
edit: omfg poop, i am like smiling crying and sweating right now listening to this shit, boy man some good shit (pun intended)
stop what you are doing and listen now
edit: lolz at last minute -
no im referring to 1.0 = 80s 2.0 = 90s 3.0= 2000's and 4.0= 2010+ but im drunk so maybe 3.0 is just all 2000s haha idk point is obv 89-98 was the prime but there are still moments and shows even today haha again future phish is all we got past phish are just the memories? still more raging to do
