Growing up, my gifts from my parents were wrapped and my gifts from Santa were unwrapped under the tree. My wife had ALL of her gifts wrapped, whether from Santa or her parents. We both think that the other did things pretty strangely. So which was it OT? Wrapped or unwrapped? (Someone feel free to add a poll- not sure how to do that- is it only for MODs?)
-
santa gifts were never wrapped - they were always in plain sight at the front of the tree in front of all the wrapped stuff
-
Always wrapped. You weirdos
-
Why on earth would there be unwrapped gifts under the tree. Makes absolutely zero sense
-
If they're not wrapped then there's gonna be chimney soot all over them. WTF OP?

Question about Christmas from a jew. Is 1 gift from Santa and the rest from family or is it 1 gift from family and the rest from Santa?

me and the wife talked about this the other day, hers were always unwrapped and put out Christmas Eve when she went to sleep.....mine were always wrapped and put out the same time....this is actually how I figured out Santa wasn't real, I was in 1st grade I think and I noticed Santa and my dad had the same hand writing lol
Serlin there is no limit to gifts...depends on how much family spends, I would have a few from Santa and a few from my parents and siblings, the $$ of the gift depended on how many for me -
My mind is being blown right now. Never heard of people having unwrapped gifts under the tree from anyone. That just feels so wrong. WTF

i do 1 from santa for my kids and the rest from me.. its easier for him to believe the whole things real if kids only get 1 present from santa considering he has to stop at every house in the world... more than 1 present just wouldnt fit in the sleigh brah =)

everything was wrapped, from santa and parents.
did you guys open everything one at a time or just have a free for all? in our family only one person at a time would unwrap a gift and it would kind of go in a rotation, but have heard from others that they didn't do the same and in about 5 minutes all the gifts would be opened. -
Same as op, wife's were wrapped from santa, mine weren't. This came up tonight, and has the past 4 years for our kids. She wraps them.
-
All gifts always wrapped, about a 50/50 split from parents and santa.
-
this is how my family does it. one gift at a time taking turns. what fun is getting family gifts and not seeing their excitement opening it up? the only present i remember not being wrapped was a new bike when i was little. i had no idea that people didnt wrap all of their gifts. my mind is blown as well. wtf.

everything was wrapped...i'm with some of the other guys/gals--i just can't understand having a present under the tree unwrapped.
so you wake up at 4:30 AM, get your siblings up (if applicable), sprint to wake your parents up, have a billion volts of anticipation raging through your body, get to your christmas tree, and see gifts just sitting out in the open? Debbie Downer...Captain Buzzkill...etc WTF??
my parents were pretty smart about how they did it...they'd wrap every gift, and like some others have said--it'd be the 1 "big" gift each year that would be from Santa. they'd wrap it in a different wrapping paper, and my dad would write on the gift tag for those. my mom wrote on the tags of all the other gifts...and they were obv in a different wrapping paper. i'm kinda shocked i never put 2 + 2 together with my dad's handwriting...but hey, i was a little kid. -
don't think i've ever seen an unwrapped gift under the tree. you guys are fuckin weird
-
all of this...and yes, if it was a big enough gift (new basketball hoop, bike, air hockey table, etc.), my parents would normally just store it in the garage, and wrap my 2nd biggest gift from Santa.

But it's an instant buzzkill...anticipation gone in a split second.

Instead of a steady buildup to the big gift...shredding the paper as fast as you can...jumping around after you finally read the box and what it is.
I just couldn't imagine not doing it.
I've been talking to a buddy about it on AIM for the last about 1/2 hour...he said they'd get 1 unwrapped gift from Santa, and it would normally be something that they could put together...like a lego fort, or a little tykes car, or whatever. Still doesn't make it acceptable to me, but makes a little more sense. -
I still had gifts to unwrap. It was about a 50/50 split between gifts from Santa and gifts from parents. The gifts being unwrapped from Santa felt more believable- something about going downstairs and seeing all of the toys laid out that werent there when you went to bed.
Im pretty sure Tim Allen in The Santa Clause didnt have his gifts wrapped. -
Also curious to see if the kids who had unwrapped gifts from Santa realized he wasn't real at a much younger age.

We all know that when watching Christmas movies, the elves make/wrap the gifts...since there was no wrapping paper on the gifts, it'd be reasonable to assume that the elves/Santa didn't exist, right? -
I think its the opposite. As I previously posted, the gifts being unwrapped had a special feel to it that made it seem as though Santa really was there and dropped off the toys. As other posters mentioned, I would have recognized Mom's/Dad's handwriting ASAP as well as the wrapping paper.

Elves made the toys- didnt know they wrapped them too. Pretty inefficient way of doing things.
Anyone else ever second guess Santa at a young age when their toys had like a "made in China/New Zealand, etc." label and not "North Pole" on them?
