What to do in NOLA??

    I'm headed down to New Orleans for a wedding next week and have a few days to burn. Others going on the trip want to do some of the tours. I'd rather not spend my time/money on the touristy things like that.

    Ideas from the locals??

    Try not to get shot on Bourbon St, for starters.

     

    New Orleans officials scrambled Tuesday to restore a sense of calm to a citizenry on edge hours after two gunmen opened fire on a crowd of costumed Halloween revelers on Bourbon Street in an act of carelessness that was shocking even in a city inured to street violence. It was one of five separate shootings over the holiday that left two dead and 14 others injured, with most of the mayhem centered in the tourist hub of the French Quarter.

    Haa. I was just going to make this thread but pretty much the exact opposite.

    The wife and I won't be doing any drinking but want to do some touristy things.
    Any suggestions (gonnabe there for a couple nights and then cruising to Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Cozumel)

    Harrahs, Cafe DuMonde, stop by The Monteleon hotel and have a bloody in the revolving bar. Go thru Jackson Square and check out all the art. Go to Felixs Oyster Bar, go back to Harrahs and then go to the Penthouse Club. Then go get a hand grenade (youll know what im talking about when you get there) and the go to Pat O'Brians and get a Hurricane.

    Anyone reading this thread have any good info on house rentals ?? we had one lined up but got fucked out of the deposit $250 I think. but more importantly lost our place for final four any help would be greatly appreciated and I'll buy ya a some beers if I get a good line on a place from ya

    These are all really good suggestions. Penthouse is def the best. its right off bourbon across the street from Acme Oyster House, which is another place you could stop for a dozen raw. You can go to Drago's in the Hilton and get a dozen char-grilled as well. The theme is drinking and eating. Get you a cold one of your choice and just walk around and people watch. The absinthe house has great bloody marys. Stanleys in the quarter is the place to go for breakfest. If you want a poboy in the quarter, go to Johnny's Poboys. Great dinner can be had at one of a hundred different places, tell me your budget and where you are staying and I will give some recommendations. Other then that, drink your ass off but whatever you do, dont puke in a cab. They dont like that.

Or your best bet might be to call Latter-Blum reality and speak with them. They are legit. 1800-771-9305 I'm not sure if they do weekend house rentals but they are one of the larger real estate companies in the city and should atleast be able to point you in the right direction.

    Get the fried chicken at Coop's Place and drink heavily. There are some cool bars outside of the French Quarter on Magazine St. (I think) like The Bulldog and a few others around that area

    The Hurricane Katrina exhibit at the museum is pretty intense, too.

    Hotel just isnt big enough to be cramped in for 5 days weve done it the last 3 years and it sucked by monday. Im gonna call that reality company tho thanx

    Best Po Boys ever. Get the Ferdi Special. You'll melt.

    Mother's is also a <5 minute walk from Harrah's so keep that in mind.


    And yeah, obv just got to Bourbon Street at night. Hard to go wrong there.
