  1. Heard he's been hitting 97 on the radar gun, but me and friend were debating where to take him in fantasy drafts? My friend was saying he'd take him in the 4th-5th.. I said I'd prob wait till the 8th or so ( doubt he can hold up, and be as effective as he was, but still worth the chance) What do you guys think?
  2. I hope you are talking about 4-5th/8th round and not overall IMO.

If he's available after the 5th round I'd grab him over most of what would be out there in a 12 team league, but who knows who will be available and I'd never specifically target one player for a certain round before I knew what my options were, especially when I don't even know how many teams are in your league.

    edit:

I'd expect him to win anywhere from 12-18 games 70%, 18+ 5%, and less than 12 25% of the time. He'll probably post a good ERA and pitch plenty of innings and strike plenty of people out if he stays healthy. He's a nasty pitcher but his health problems should be a concern, also he'll be the top dog out there now that Johan is gone, it's not a huge deal, but he will be facing better pitchers some of the time, and that won't help his winning % at all, which is big in fantasy.
  3. Ya, def meant rounds 5-8 haha... But does anyone know how healthy he is right now?

  4. Well, he's getting a little long in the tooth. But I've got him projected as a 28th round U backup.

    I'm looking to get:

    .250 avg
    0 HR
    4 RBI
    1 S
    7 CS
    1 BB
    OPS somewhere around 59

I'd take him if he's available late.

  5. Question to all baseball fans of a team in a small market. How can you still support your team when, whenever they get a top teir talent they are bound to leave to a bigger market. Seriously, how do you support a team that trades away your best pitcher and loses all star CF to FA. I guess thats why im not a baseball fan.

IF the Cowboys traded away their best players and constantly let their top talent go to other teams, i dont know if id still be a fan. Im not one of those fair weather fans either, been a cowboy fan my whole life obv, but i just dont see how you can support a team consistantly dumping there best players like the Twins and A's do.

  6. is he expected to even be with the team as a starter from game 1?

the first year back tends to have highs and lows ... and i wouldn't expect 30+ starts 180+ innings

my guess is april and may he's up and down ... june and july he gets hot and he and twins start pushing him more and more and then his arm gets tired and he stinks and has a DL stint and comes back average in september ... if he's really going to be great it'll start next year i think
  7. ^^sigh...try living here and oh its not just baseball.

    :(
  8. Dware94 I live in minnesota and have been a Twins fan since birth, it is very hard when we give up strong talent such as Santana, and Hunter, (even though I project Hunter's numbers to be down this year) I try to stay positive as I can because i know we have some of the best scouts, as well as farm system in the majors, so hopefully some new stars appear in the next couple seasons, you know so we can develop them and trade them off...lol. It is also tough giving up talent when the owner of the team has more money than god, but wont open up his wallet..../rant before i go off to much
  9. ^^yes Liriano himself has stated he is 100% and has hit 97 on the radar gun, however the season has not started and he hasn't had to endure 7-9 innings of pitching...and i'm curious to see how he holds up esp. when throwing his nasty breaking stuff.
  10. DWARE, you obviously have no clue and are just trying to rile people up like usual.

The Dbacks, Rockies, and Clevalnd all made the championship series, all of them are young and have smaller payrolls. Minnesota is always in the hunt, Oakland, Seattle, will be good this year. Small markets have a chance if there kids play well, but when that happens it is more fun to watch than the YAnkees, Red Sox, Tigers or any other team that spends $200 million.

Keep in mind, only one team actually wins a title every year, sounds like you are forgetting that.

Go Cubbies, let's win it every hundred years

BTW Liriano 18-6 2.89 ERA, take him early or you lose!
  11. im not trying to "rile" people up at all. I am a huge sports fan but dont really care much for baseball. It was a serious question.

  12. Liriano will = the American League's Mark Prior

  13. Yeah, I'm afraid to draft him. I've read quite a few articles talking about his unorthodox delivery and how it puts so much pressure/stress on his elbow.

Don't get me wrong, he's lights out when he's healthy. I just think there are probably safer options out there. High risk/reward guy IMO.
  14. ^^^^^^^^^doubt that.

Prior was never able to regain his fastball after he lost it. Liriano is already hitting 97 and it's the first week of spring training games.

I don't think any pitcher ever will disappoint people the way prior did. Watch him win 15 games next year for the Padres, that would be typical Cubbie luck.
  15. I'm talking strictly from an injury standpoint. He'll be hurt again before the all star break I bet.
