I get the feeling that some day we'll be telling our grand kids about the good old days of the internet. Where you could download anything for free, movies, music, (porn), tv shows.

The internet for the past 10-15 years or so has been like the wild west, but at some point I fear it will be tamed and made lame by corporations and government oversight.
I think if there isnt a strong push for net neutrality, that we could be at the turning point already.
On the other hand, so far, with time the internet has only grown and become more and more awesome with new innovations and more content, so I believe that there have to be more innovations to come that could make the internet an even better place.
What is in store for the future of the internet? Will it become even more awesome, or less awesome than it is today? -
Probably a bunch of latenight stoners talking to each other. Just a guess
-
it will become one giant facebook, they have taken over the internet
-
I think porn will prob make an appearance on the Internet one day
-
holograms or GTFO
-
The Internet needs to get itself an education and a job, else it's got no future.
-
scratch and sniff monitors imo
-
ahh the good old days of the internet. It's like my dad told me, "In the early days, before cameras and those magnetic thingies, stealing shit from stores was sfeasy. After all, as his pappy (my grandpappy) used to say "It's harder to rob banks these days, with the blue dye packages and phones and whatnot."
rigged
f net "neutrality" tho -
some dood was on BNN last night talking about the internets and social networking from an advertising / marketing stand point. The game has totally changed since youtube vids can catch on and go viral overnight. You also have a huge political influence available now through social networking that was never before seen. Major political parties have all their little offshoots working like busy little beavers creating web based campaign stuff and can sit back and say "it wasnt me". They get away with shit now that they would never have officially said in years past. That is one of the big reasons why governments are trying to enforce some type of regulation on the webz.

lol at net neutrality!!! get a clue bro, that will regulate the net and ruin the net as you know it today... dec 21 should be fun!!
-
I liked the net better before it had domain names and only us geeks were capable of using the net. Funny how everybody hated computers and called the users geeks until computers were easy enuf for them to use and now they love it and surf their stupid facebooks daily.

Statistically speaking, it will get divorced and then die in about 52 years.
-
you didn't hear? Randers already won it a few days ago

I'll be able to stick my dick in the the hole where the cd/dvd/blu-ray rom used to be and the porn slut on my screen will start suckin me off. The perfect POV experience. Instead of now where I just end up with alot of scratches. scraps and frustration.

i think within the next 20 years you wont "go online" , you will put on a special helmet/body suit and "go inline".
It will be like a different world where you dont watch porn you are in porn, with animated virtual porn stars -
This is a good topic...it constantly amazes me how connected the world is with the internet now, you can be almost anywhere in the world and be just as connected as you were at home. I am a little worried about the likes of Facebook / Google and some others stifling competition for better internet services, but I remain pretty optimistic that the decentralized, global nature of the internet will keep it from being overrun by regulation and corporate interests.

Everyone thought microsoft had a lock on the computer industry, but look at apple quickly eating away at their market share...only a matter of time before all these office products are online, and become relatively interchangable...there's only so much innovation you can do with spreadsheets & word processing. The internet too will go through its phases, but unless countries adopt the china model with huge firewalls, there will be constant development.
This picture blew my mind recently:

it's a map of the world with facebook friend connections represented by lines to longitude and latitude coordinates of cities. Note - there are no country borders on here, but you can make out the countries and cities purely by social network connections. Also note - china is black as facebook is banned there.
