  1. What happens to higher end places such as Whole Foods and $50 a plate type restaurants? Are there enough "rich" people around to keep these places going or do they need the little people also?
  2. i think "higher end places such as Whole Foods and $50 a plate type restaurants" are the last thing to worry about during a recession
  3. no my job is recession proof and i dont have a bunch of cash tied up in the market so its all i have to worry about.

  4. lol The higher end places have been reporting diners downgrading in their restaurant chains for awhile. Brinker International, which owns Maggiano's, Macaroni Grill, On the Border, etc has already reported trends of people who normally dine in their higher end restaurants now dining in their lower end ones. I think in a recession in this day and age people won't necessarily quit eating out altogether (dining out seems like too much of a way of life in our society), but will lower the scale of where they eat.

so you're saying you hope whole food stores and $50 a plate places stay open during a recession so you can spend your money from your money earned at your "recession proof job" at them?

what happens when you can only get gas on a tuesday b/c your license plate ends in 1-3. or the gov't is mailing you meat and veggie coupons telling you how much you can buy of each b/c the avg farmer is only raising/growing what the gov't gives them enough to raise/grow?

  9. Here's the Whole Food news for you. Not so good -

"Whole Foods Market Inc., the largest U.S. natural-foods grocer, slumped 19 percent since reporting on May 13 a bigger- than-expected drop in quarterly profit. The Austin, Texas-based retailer said sales growth slowed as shoppers reined in spending."

I just saw it listed as one of the most heavily shorted stocks right now, too.

  11. Central Market>>>Whole Foods

I just noticed that you and I live in the same general area too, so you should have a Central Market around you somewhere.
