It's going to happen. Maybe not today, maybe not this year, but sometime in the next 30-40 years, there will be a major earthquake (7.0M or greater) that will hit southern California. Hundreds of buildings collapse, thousands of people die, tens of thousands injured, millions without power, sanitary services, etc. Martial law is put in place, there will be chaos on the streets, looting, robbery, killings, street justice.
So what do you think will happen? Not just in the area impacted by the earthquake, but also to some of the larger scale matters (economy, politics) or even the "unimportant" stuff like sports and entertainment.
california is not New Orleans....major catastrophes often bring people together instead of rip them apart
And the depth of the earthquake is much more important than the magnitude. So a 6.0 one at 10 miles deep will be more destructive than a 7.0 one at 20 miles deep. -
doesnt concern me much, really

Indeed Sharp. I live in an area which would be affected. It's responsible for four of the largest 'quakes in North America. Several 'quakes happened over a period of time in 1811-1812 of 7.0+, and were felt hundreds of miles away. If you believe in it, the US Navy has a future map of what they believe the US could look like.

I really think there would be horrific damage when that does go off again in comparison to the " big one " in California.
Heres another future map. Although, personally even though i think these maps are a bunch of crap it does make you wonder..

This aint NYC! We build out, not up. FTW in LA is a house with a backyard. On a hill overlooking the city if you're a baller

Downtown is becoming nicer and more popular though -
I don't really think any of that will happen. Natural disasters happen all the time. I'm more concerned about what we may or may not see coming from space.

What if...NQTW thread was used the correct way by posters??????

Edited By: Edub Oct 3rd, 2012 at 04:29 AMI lived in Northridge off White Oak ave in 94 too. Got smashed pretty bad. House got yellow tagged and our landlord said they want to tear it down and rebuild so we had to stay at the neighbors till we found a new place. Most in our neighborhood stayed right there but in the end we were forced to move to a shitty city 2 hours south named after a whales vagina.Originally Posted by zeppelinzoso16

I imagine if it happened where I live again I would just welp and move to another place. About as worried about the big one as I am of a car accident... accept it can happen, have the correct measures in place if it does, and don't plan on it.
