id say dont kill it. if anything its eating bugs that would other wise be flying around outside your house. doubt it wants to eat you or even come near you
-
Edited By: HeyNiceAscot Aug 29th, 2011 at 11:12 PMThe problem is it's right outside my patio door and has strung its web in such a way that makes it impossible to go outside. After some research I think it's an Orb-Weaver Spider. They're non-venomous and apparently eat their own webs each evening and spin a new one overnight in a nearby location.Originally Posted by shallowcal

all spiders are venomous- it cant be poisionous if it delivers its venom intraveinously, like these should be facts anyone from america or any other first world country should know.....to answer your question I doubt it would effect you if it bit you outside of annoyance, move on
-
This. My rule is that if its in the House it can be killed but if its outside leave it be.

spiders rape. keep on killing them and letting other actual pests thrive around your home tho
oh and there's generally only 2 spiders you need to "worry" about in the states. black widow and brown recluse
pretty much true. just for the sake of confusion I will post this:Originally Posted by jtj03

Myth: Some spiders are poisonous and others are not.
Fact: There are two problems with this idea: a technicality, and a set of false assumptions. First, the technicality. "Poisonous" and "venomous" are two different things. Offhand, I can't think of any spider that is poisonous (harmful to eat, breathe or touch). Mushrooms are sometimes poisonous, but spiders are not; they are venomous (their toxins are proteins and work by being injected, not by being eaten).
Second, we have a set of false assumptions about spider venoms. Almost all spiders are venomous; only two small families lack venom glands. The purpose of spider venom is to subdue the spider's prey, almost always insects. In brief, it's an insecticide. Spider venom does not exist to harm creatures, like humans, which are too large for spiders to eat, and in nearly all cases has little if any effect on humans.
A minority of spider species have venom that can cause localized pain in humans, like the venom of bees or wasps. (Bees and wasps are far more dangerous than spiders, however; wasps cause many deaths annually). Of around 50,000 spider species known, only about 25 (1/20 of 1%) have venom capable of causing illness in humans, to a greater or lesser extent. In any given locality you can expect to find from zero to (at most) three such species. These species are called "medically significant" spiders. -
Do not kill Gods creatures...

How has this not turned into a spider thread? Like the real spider thread?

so sick of people saying 'dont kill them, they eat flies bla bla bla'. people who don't like spiders couldnt care less about all the insects they eat. fears are irrational, and telling people the good things spiders do arent going to make you hate them any less. you can buy raid for spiders that does the trick if you really want it dead and dont wanna have to touch it, or scrape its carcass off your foot.
i used to almost always catch and release any insect or spider but lately ive just been flushin them down the toilet since i live in a condo and have nowhere to release them. I rarely got them in my place anyways since I live on the 15th floor, but a few weeks ago I found one that was hanging out under my counter, and every time i'd try to trap it, or even kill it, it would hear the noise and run and hide, and id have to wait hours for him to come back. finally got sick of him evading capture so i bought some raid and sprayed it up in his hiding spot and he hasnt been back since.
RAAAAAAAID
btw, that spider's ass looks like it has a face -
Found a big ass spider in my shed last week. The size of a fifty cent piece. I figured fuck it let him live and he'll eat all the bugs in my shed. Then yesterday I accidentally ran him over with the riding mower. Fucker ran right out in front of me. Only time I've ever felt bad about killing a bug.

On the flip side I found a wasp nest in the shed but when I went to get the wasp spray it wasnt there...but there was a can of spray paint. So i spray painted those motherfuckers. it was very entertaining watching them dry and stick to the floor. -

Why you mad bro? He didn't say anything in the op about hating spiders. He asked what kind of spider it is and if he should kill it. So "no, don't kill it" seems like a pretty appropriate response. -

I'm usually not the type to kill spiders, but I'm also not the type to trap them and let em go...I usually just kinda ignore them. This spider however strung his web in my doorway so I had to get it out of the way. Maybe a lil hasty on the kill, but I'm an AMERICAN (deep southern accent) so I eliminated the enemy. -
the only spiders i attack that i see on the reg are wolf spiders, those things are too mean looking to allow to live
i've got a huge shit show of spider webs on my back porch, right by the door... any moth that tries to bolt in the house when i open the door gets to have a chat with leroy -
Don't care what spider it is; it's dead once I see it.
