Have had a lot of discussions lately with friends over what makes a sport a sport and what shouldnt count as a sport. Basically Ive come up with 1 rule that you cant be sitting in a chair for it to be a sport(such as playing chess or something like that).
Basically for some reason people were discounting track and field and swimming as not being sports which i fully count as sports. We were split on stuff such as BMX and figure skating mainly because they are judged. Then people argued that refs were kinda like judges and blah blah blah blah
ANYWAYS what makes a sport a sport -
STFU!!!!!!!!

Ugh, didn't the last one of thses spawn like 150 replies and enough animosty to make the Hatfields and McCoys feel awkward?
-
If you can get injured during the game, then its a sport. And no, I wouldn't consider carpal tunnel syndrome an injury from chess.
-
Please someone find the original thread and post it, to keep down the general angst level in OT.
-
I am begging you

how can a race not be a sport? racing and combat are probably the two most natural sports around. who would say that a race isnt a sport lolz
i think a sport could be defined as a physical contest that requires some degree of both athletecism(ie speed strength agility) and skill(coordination precision sensitivity)
and yes this has been beat to shit -
I agree Steve. This topic has been beaten to death.
-
athletic contest without judges.
-
gymnastics isn't a sport? tennis?
-
no to gymnastics. yes to tennis. The judges in tennis are the same thing as a ref or umpire in football, baseball, basketball etc.
basically just mean gymnastics, figure skating, x-games aren't sports to me because the winner is determined by someones interpretation of who was the best. -
If you get mentally exhausted OR physically exhausted its a sport
-
while J'ing off today I became both mentally and physically exhausted. I tried using my imagination, not as effective as videos of leather bound midgets.
-
i don't really want to reply to the actual topic, but i would like to say that cheerleading is NOT a sport.
