So driving home from work today (once every 6 weeks we have to work a half day Sat), My Jeep hydroplaned into the median on the interstate. Thankfully, I am 100 percent okay, which is incredible, I was spinning out in the middle of the interstate and the smashed into the median. Also surprisingly, my Jeep seems mostly fine. I was able to make it home taking it very slowly. I honestly think it might just be somewhat painless fix (although I am car retarded). From the outside, the damn thing almost looks normal. The hood is slightly jacked up, but that is about it aesthetically...
At any rate, I don't know how to proceed. I am thinking I just take it to a body shop and have them look at it and report it to my insurance company. Anything else?
Also, I will update with a pic, when it isn't poring outside, but it isn't impressive or anything, just looks like an old beat up jeep (which is how it always looks.) -
If you deductible is more than the cost to fix it... just go get it fixed and bypass the ins. co.
You lost control of your car.. .which means you would have been cited for failure to maintain control of your vehicle.
The ins. co. could take this into account come renewal time.
On another note... I have found a good way to make sure you are getting the best rate is to shop your car insurance every six months... ie. progressive, esuarnce...etc. -
This is a collision claim. Get your estimate first. If it's minor and you decide to pay for it yourself, do not report it to your insurance company. If not, then report it to your insurance company. Don't forget to figure in your deductible when deciding whether to pay for it yourself.

As typical when dealing with insurance companies you'll want to lube up real well so the ass-fucking won't cause any bleeding.

The adjuster will tell you if its worth it. Its what he's paid to do. Including shit that isnt cosmetic. If its not worth the deductible they wont file the claim. If you have accident forgiveness your premium wont be affected.

FTR I had a tire blowout last summer. $1500 worth of damage. Allstate cut me a check for $1400 and nothing went against my premium -
def report to your insurance company first and not the body shop. An adjuster will call you from the insurance company, just let him know that you want to have the damage appraised but you may not want to go ahead and file a claim. They will send out an appraiser (not an adjuster) who will write an estimate for the damages. You don't have to take a payout from the insurance company, just make the decision once you get the estimate. Also, alot of times the first estimate isn't enough to cover all the damage because once they start to take the car apart to fix it, they usually find a bunch of other shit that was hidden that needs to be fixed (especially when you crush a median at highway speed).
You're at fault for the accident so if the insurance company pays, you will get a surcharge but if you don't take a payment, its no harm, no foul...
