If you're looking for classics to read - I've read 1984 six times - just incredible despite it's bleakness.
Other books i've read and would rate at 9/10:-
The world according to Garp - John Irving
The Stand - Stephen King
To kill a mocking bird - Harper Lee
Dune - Frank Herbert - the best SF book ever imho.
And an honorary mention to the following:
Down to a sunless sea - David Graham
One flew over the cuckoos nest Ken kesey
Popcorn - Ben Elton
I am Legend - Richard Matheson - very different to film.
Day of the Triffids – John Wyndham
The spy who came in from the cold.- John Le Carre
Magician – Raymond E Feist
Ahh fuck, i just read you wanted non fiction
Try 'Death plus ten years' by can't remember - it's about an English businessman who gets arrested in Iran for spying, and gets sentenced to ten years in prison THEN death by hanging. -
I just finished reading the heroin diaries
Not particularly well written but was fascinating to see how fucked up a drug it is -
Last 3 books I've read: Positively fifth street. Awesome book about the murder of Ted Binnion/the authors amazing run to.the final table at the main event. The professor, the banker and the suicide king. Great read about the biggest cash games ever played. The Black Hand, a biography of one of the most ruthless gangsters from the Mexican mafia. Now I'm reading the autobiography of brett the hitman hart.

Edited By: PoWdA Jan 23rd, 2012 at 02:52 PMYeah I own and have read both poker books. I have read about 60 poker books so if you name one I have prob read it. I would be open to good poker book on Omaha hi/lo but I think I have read most of them and pretty sure I have read the best ones. If anyone can suggest an Omaha Hi/Lo book that I haven't read that is worth reading I might be open to that. Also poker based stories like the Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide king would be great.Originally Posted by squinonez81

Right now I think Heroin Diary's is winning as I have just been hearing about it all over the damn place. 1984 is up there as well going off of suggestions from this thread. -
I've read so few books since I went to college. I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately so I think I'm gonna start reading again at the end of the day, hopefully will make me drowsy faster and also be good for my brain...probably going to start with either "The Master and Margarita" (#1 on Keith Law's list of top 100 novels) or "Infinite Jest" (by David Foster Wallace.) Probably leaning towards the latter though atm

Have you read this? Is it good? I was listening to the radio today and they had a sniper on there with 140 or 160 confirmed kills and was wondering if he had a book. I am wondering if this is the same guy but i thought he said he was a marine. Anyway, have you read this? Was it any good?

Someone turned me on to this in that thread a while back:

Which i devoured in like three days. It was a really dark and evil book. Good times.
Then I read this (Dont mock me)

Was kinda cool to read about The rise of Darth Sidious, but was alot of political mumbo jumbo and not enough evil darkside mahem, like the Darth Bane books. Those were badass. Pretty good read tho. -
Non fiction, that dude was sick.

The hunger games. Just finished it and started the 2nd one of the trilogy called catching fire. Really awesome books.
Another great book (my favorite book of all time) is nothing to envy: Ordinary lives in north Korea. It is about 5 different defecors from Nk and they are interviewed about their life there.

About to read American Gods by Neil Gaiman since he is one of my all time favorite writers yet I haven't read this one yet. I am also reading Jane Eyre, Dracula, and a collection of retelling of fairy tales. Trying to keep my reading list light right now since I am about to start school again.

"In cold blood " , Truman Capote .. A masterpiece .

Just read Ender's Game which was pretty decent. If you liked The Hunger Games series then you'll enjoy this one.
Currently reading A Game of Thrones. Pretty boring so far but I'm only like 60 pages in. Heard it gets good around 150 so just gotta pull through.
