Currently reading A Game of Thrones. Pretty boring so far but I'm only like 60 pages in. Heard it gets good around 150 so just gotta pull through.

Is hunger games same genre as Enders Game? Enders Game was great for being OG wirtten in the late 70's. And most will enjoy the Song of Ice and fire series it is very well written, but the begging kinda sucks.

Same genre yes. But doesn't have anything to do with aliens. It's really good, look it up.

Ender's Game is awesome but did you just say it had nothing to do with aliens?

No. I said, or meant rather, The Hunger Games have nothing to do with Aliens. Thought it would be clear with the quotation above the comment.

  6. Read Assholes Finish First by Tucker Max recently, entertaining but not as good as the first one.

Also read The Big Short, which was good, but I felt like I already knew most of the story from other reporting about the housing crash. Did give me a somewhat better understanding of how we got into the mess and there were a few interesting characters. Michael Lewis is a great writer, and keeps what could be a very dull story interesting.

Recently started Peoples History of the United States, interesting so far. Would also recommend Modern Times by Paul Johnson, for the opposite take on history (very conservative writer, for instance makes arguments that african colonization wasn't as bad as made out to be, etc).

In the middle of the 4th Game of Thrones book, which is on indefinite hold...the first three books were very slow at parts but eventually really paid off, not sure I have the patience to finish off the series (i know i'm probably in the minority here)

So these are all non-fiction? I have a few fiction books on the shelf I haven't read yet but every time I branch out and read fiction it brings me right back to wanting to read non-fiction more and more. These all look like great suggestions.

  8. just finished the 2nd book of the hunger games trilogy...they are very entertaining and a super easy read..gonna bang out the final book this week...i liked the girl with the dragon tatoo trilogy more but the hunger games books are good shit too...gonna check out that heroin diaries in a few weeks
  9. I didn't like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo at all. I didn't even finish it, which is something I rarely do. I think it was that when I read I picture what I'm reading in my head and not knowing anything about where the story took place made it difficult for me to paint the picture in my head about what was going on.

Fiction right? They sound kinda interesting. I guess my aim, as always, is to find a book that I just cannot put down. I will say that probably my two favorite books ever were Angels and Demons and The DaVinci Code. I read both books in under 24 hours, I literally could not get away. I would love to find something that good again but I just can't find it.

  11. i read the davinci code and angels and demons very quickly also...i liked them a lot but i liked the dragon tatoo movies a lot more, and i think i prob like the hunger games books more...i might just be saying that bc i read the dan brown books like a million years ago and read the other books in the past few months....if u want to read some books that u cant put down then i say read the girl with the dragon tatoo trilogy

tsxxx how long did u give it before u gave up? i thought the 1st book was a little slow at the beginning but then i became hooked...i read those 3 books (600 pages each) in like 2 weeks (mostly while pokering...came in 3rd in a tournament at the borgata while reading the 2nd book and i think the fact that i was so into the book helped bc i played soooo patiently)...but ya i have no idea what u mean about not being able to picture where it takes place in ur head...i thought everything was exremely descriptive...if u gave up after like 50 or even 100 pages i would give them another shot
  12. I only read prob like 75-100 pages in I just couldn't get into it, mind kept wandering, kept losing my place etc. I still have it but this never happens to me I usually get a book and get into it and read it over a few days max. It took me 2 weeks to push myself to read what I read and I honestly couldn't get into it to the point where I don't really remember that much. Maybe at some point I'll be bored enough to give it another try but I can't remember a book ever being this difficult for me to get through that wasn't required for a class or something. It's weird since everyone I know who has read it has liked it and I'm a pretty avid reader.

How are these? Love going back and picking up fantasy series I read when younger. Read all the Wheels of time books recently and am working on Eriksons malazan book of the fallen or something.
  18. At the moment, I'm currently reading OT.
  19. Hard to believe that anyone would read the grapes of wrath by choice.

I'm reading "Tesla: Man Out of Time" it's pretty interesting and shows what a real pos Thomas Edison was.

  20. I read "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" in like 4 days, that book takes roughly 200 pages too hook you but once it does you can't put it down. I'm currently reading the sequel but left my home town for a week and left it at home on accident and am regretting that, both very good reads just are a little slow to start. Once I have finished this trilogy im going to start reading The Hunger Games. I haven't enjoyed reading in a long time and am looking forward to that series.

I had to read in high school so prob made it worse but damn is that book long and boring.

  28. Yeah i set Grapes of Wrath aside for now and went and bought Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx. The font and colors on the pages are distracting as hell but it is a decent read so far and I am very glad I picked it up. It will be over soon as I am enjoying it so much so good suggestion there. I couldn't find that "God hates you hate him back" book locally so I might move on to that sniper book. Again, thank you all for the suggestions and if you have more, keep em comin.

  29. Steve Jobs biography and John Irving's "Until I Find You" which is the worst John Irving book by a mile imo.'
