What in the world have I gotten myself into?

    Big surprise: I write political blogs on my Facebook page. I know, you're shocked.

    So when I wrote about the health care reform, I had someone challenge me. They asked a good question; How could I debate it when I was going on things in the press. So I said i'd read the entire thing to have my facts correct.

    A month later my eyes have crossed. I get so angry I have to keep shutting it down. My latest realization?

    The insurance companies will be made to provide plans to improve health, to include smoking cessation, weight managment, fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle choices.

    Ok, so insurance companies are going to help us improve our health. Sounds good right? But what nobody in Washington wants to talk about is that there is also a provision in the health care bill that provides this exclusion:


    A group health plan and a health insurance issuer

    22 offering group or individual health insurance coverage shall

    23 not rescind such plan or coverage with respect to an enrollee

    24 once the enrollee is covered under such plan or coverage in25

    volved, except that this section shall not apply to a covered

    26 individual who has performed an act or practice that con-

    1 stitutes fraud or makes an intentional misrepresentation of

    erage. Such plan or coverage may not be cancelled except

    4 with prior notice to the enrollee, and only as permitted

    5 under section 2702(c) or 2742(b).

    I have not been able to find 2702 or 2742.

    And from what i've read, health insurance companies CAN place restrictions on coverage. So who is to stop them from saying they do not cover people who don't exercise or who smoke?

    Im confused. Sounds like the insurance companies will take this chance to send reps like life insurance companies Do to preapprove your health and not admit you if they don't like you ahead of time. Everyone else into the common gene pool. Get in shape and maybe we can reconsider you later.
    just asking, I don't know, I was just reading that post and thought that.
