First, here is a decent article by Kravitz in which he breaks down the situation as he sees it. He's been writing different versions of this for a month now.

Colts are now a virtual lock for the number 1 pick (they have to finish 3 - 3 and a 2 - 7 team must lose out) so now the ruminating begins.
A friend of mind wants to trade the pick for 3 more and then trade Manning for another 3. While I appreciate the balls this would take, there is no way I could justify giving up a hof'er and a potential one for 6 who knows.
It has been very apparent that Peyton might be done as a Colt and even as a football player for quite some time now. Until recently, I wanted to keep him, trade the pick, lose Wayne, draft for need, sign some free agents, and swing for one more bowl. Now, I think the team is too broken. Building through the draft worked to a certain extent until we totally blew 3 years in a row. Now we have the worst secondary in the league, shit special teams, a great D line, and an old offense.
With that said, I say we part with most of our stars, draft Luck and prepare for the future. If he is half the QB Manning was, we'll be in good shape.
WWYDOT?
Cliffs:
decent article
draft Luck
lose Manning et al
rape AFC again in 3 years -
draft luck and trade manning for what i can
i doubt mannings trade value is very high. cant see anybody giving up a lot for a guy with 3-4 years left at most and one bad hit away from paralysis. your friends probably overestimating his trade value. -
Manning will never play again, but he could be a great coach. Draft Luck and let Peyton work with him.
-
Draft Luck, trade Manning, move team to LA in the middle of the night.
-
1. Draft Luck.
2. Profit.
3. Doesn't matter. -
If I am Colts GM there is no question that I would deal the 1st pick based on current info. People can hate all they want but Andrew Luck is not the sure fire guarantee that people want to believe he is. His value at this point IMO exceedes his possible production. I am stunned that so many people in Indy think Peyton is done, he has slow nerve regeneration, its not uncommon, its actually very common and requires nothing but time. Peyton never was a good QB because of his physical attributes anyways, its because of his mind, a mind that has never been seen before in the NFL....and that ladies and gents will be intact for a long time.
That said I am basing my decision on the information we currently have, say Peyton's neck turns out to be an even bigger deal in Feb. when they reeval, if it becomes apparent he could possibly be done then its obv a no brainer to draft Luck.
The way I see it though if Manning heals as he seems to indicate that he will you have a good 3-5 years of production left, and you would be out your goddamn mine to not take adv of that and use whatever you get for the #1 pick (which would be unprecidented IMO) and make multiple runs at another Super Bowl -
My instinct just screams that he will never play again, I hope I am wrong, but think I am not.

I don't understand why Luck has to play Day 1. Yeah you definitely draft him, but why not go with Peyton for another year or two. Indy might be the only market where people wouldn't be falling over themselves to get Luck in ASAP. Quite frankly, Luck's career could be ruined if they tried to play him Day 1 in Indy with how bad that team is.
-
This. Look at how the Favre/Rodgers shit went down.

Bob, read that link and see what you think then.

My thoughts exactly. Seemed to work well with Aaron Rodgers.

Really? If Manning is capable of playing next season, there's no reason to believe a team wouldn't trade 2-3 first round draft picks and a young player or two (especially some team that figures to be drafting in the bottom half of the first round). You gotta think about the upside of Manning ... what if you add Manning to the Jets? Or the Ravens? The Titans or even the Vikings? Who else that would be available could potentially transform a team instantly into a Super Bowl contender?

There's risk trading for Manning, sure. But the upside is fucking ridiculous. Football is about winning championships. What better way to roll the dice than on Peyton being healthy? -
Lol@ mannings trade value not being high... I'd trade the pick luck might suck
-
I doubt Manning wants to hang around with Luck there. i think his attitude has been if they decided to go with Luck then no hard feelings, we had a great run but its time to move on. which they would comply with out of respect. I mean that seems to me to be the line he has taken. I'd say the same thing about letting Luck sit a year or two but from what I recall hearing i dont really think thats an option. I dont think Manning wants to be that guy. I dont think he wants to play the caretaker role or whatever you wanna call it
It depends on what you consider high.Originally Posted by AMARTIN1181

Nobody would do that.Originally Posted by Pghfan987

Because you would have 27m a year wrapped up at one position. Rodgers fell in the draft so he was making back up qb money.

It all comes down to whether or not Peyton still has 2+ years left. If it's questionable at all, then you need to pick Luck.
If not, the trade #1 pick with someone else in the 5-8 range for their 1st round pick and 2 other picks in the top 100, then pick up Griffin or Barkley. They need to get some good depth for the #1 pick. -
First article I see when I type Peyton Manning into Google is a Peyton trade to KC hypothetical. It actually would make a lot of sense. KC has an abundance of young talent already so the draft is not an immediate need so they could afford to give up 2 firsts, 2 seconds, and another pick. It would give them some time to find a legitimate long term replacement at QB while having a chance to compete for 2-3 years if Manning is able to play again.
-
cause he will be 36 years old coming off a serious neck injury. nobody is gonna give up that much for such a huge risk.
-
Upside, man. If he didn't have the neck issue then four years of Manning would be worth five first round draft picks. If a team like the Jets wouldn't give up their next two first round picks plus a few young players (I don't know their roster that well, no one comes to mind), then their GM should be fired for being a moron.

This is the most important point ITT IMO.....they will not have have 2 QB's with the type of contracts those players will demand....its gonna be either Peyton or Luck....

Peyton to KC huh....guess they wanna give it another shot like they did with Montana....obv speculation but they've shown in the past they are capable of doing that.
In regards to Peytons trade value I think Carson Palmer is a great barometer on what they could get...everyone thought he was done because of his elbow/lack of velocity and they still got a boatload for him...then again that was the Raiders. -
Literally every single NFL scout and analyst that has watched and analyzed hours and hours of Andrew Luck footage says he is the best prospect since Elway and some say even greater than Elway. I don't think any of us are in any position to disagree, and you have to put his draft value on incomplete information. Saying "he can't live up to the hype" is a huge cop-out, because you can always argue that his hype was infinite and its impossible to be "wrong".
Peyton Manning has come out and said he does not want to be a mentor to anybody, and I don't blame him. I don't exactly want to help my successor replace me faster.
Additionally, you really think sitting Andrew Luck for a few years is a good idea? What if he is capable of playing at a pro-bowl level in these first 2-3 years? You really just gonna sit him behind someone that has openly said he doesn't want to mentor anyone?
I think the only real options are
1) Move the pick and give Peyton another few years to win a championship
2) Move Peyton and give Luck 10 years to win a championship
I'd personally go with #2 -
What? Kansas City would never do that. These are the same guys that ran the Patriots. They load up on picks. That would be the exact opposite of what history says Pioli would do. No way he would ever make that move.

1) In the middle of the season right before the trade deadline
2) To newly reinvigorated successful young team that is not dependent on pro bowl quarterback
3) Going to a coach Carson had worked with before and is comfortable with
4) Coming from a team that had no real desire to move him unless he was overpaid for -
It was also Carson Palmer, and we're talking about Peyton Fucking Manning.

whats your point? you never made one, are you saying that means Peyton would be worth less? not really sure what you mean by these statements
