Im just curious to see what some peoples answers would be because i think it says a lot about who you are.
Would you help someone, lets say, scale a tall fence even if it reduced your chances of survival? Or would you just make a break for it on your own and leave them to fend for themselves?
What about if there was a tornado coming and you were in a shelter, but there were some people coming that looked like they weren't going to, but possibly could, make it before the full brunt of the storm bears down on you? Would you close it and F them or do the selfless thing and try and save them?
Or how about if someone puts a gun to your head and tells you to denounce your faith/most important thing in your life? Would you just to stay alive?
There are countless more scenarios that could be thought up, i just gave these three as examples.
Personally, i have no idea what i would do. Its easy to say on here "Oh yea, no way i would ever leave someone behind, even if it was a total stranger" but when the time comes who knows what would be running through your head. I'd like to think that i would help, and im pretty sure i would, but you can just never know. -
I always think about this from the military side of the house, like if i got captured and i knew i was eventually going to be beheaded, how far would i go to stay alive.. still havent came up with an answer yet, but i think about it alot.
-
Like you said, it would be easy to come on here and say, "No, I would never leave anybody behind."
But, when it's in the heat of the moment, I would have a much harder time doing the right thing.
That said, I'm pretty sure I could stand up for whatever I believe in most, even if it meant I got shot in the head. -
i would do almost anything to risk my own life if I thought I could save another.....and I would gladly denounce anything I was told to if I really thought it meant I would live longer.....however, I have a feeling in most of those situations its denounce your religion adn then "BANG" when you do....and if that was the feeling I was getting...F them, I am not going out that way! They are just words that you obviously wouldn't really mean and only saying b/c there is a gun at your head

obv, help yourself first. and if you are 100% certain you will be okay help others. no sense in two dead/severly injured ppl... sounds cold but i think its how we all think
-
If it was a situation where my life was at risk but not anyone else's (I'm a hostage, for example) then I would go quite far.
If random people are at risk of dying and I could risk my life to help them. That is a tough one to judge. Probably would risk my life up to a 25% chance of actually dying. I have to consider my responsibility for my wife and kids (above and beyond a life insurance check).
If my family was at risk, (for example, a car was speeding toward my daughter.) I wouldn't even pause, I'd push any one of you in front of the car in a heartbeat. -
Would you help someone, lets say, scale a tall fence even if it reduced your chances of survival? Or would you just make a break for it on your own and leave them to fend for themselves?
-Me helping them--given the circumstances of imminent death--would depend on how well I know them. Friends, family, or someone else I've made a personal connection with, then yeah sure, Id help them. I would be less likely to help if they were a complete stranger.
What about if there was a tornado coming and you were in a shelter, but there were some people coming that looked like they weren't going to, but possibly could, make it before the full brunt of the storm bears down on you? Would you close it and F them or do the selfless thing and try and save them?
-Once again, it depends on the circumstances. If I could see a feasible way of saving them before the tornado came, then sure Id do it. But, if they were too far Id probably just throw up the deuce and say gg.
Or how about if someone puts a gun to your head and tells you to denounce your faith/most important thing in your life? Would you just to stay alive?
LoL...easiest question of the bunch. Yes, yes and yes. It's just words, and staying alive to do the things I love to do is immensely more preferable to dieing for a principle. -
I was just throwing those three questions up there as examples. And i agree with you, it all does depend on the circumstances. The last one though i think will depend mostly on how religous you are or how strongly you believe in something.
-
Would you kill someone else to save your own life? Ala Saw.
Would you kill someone else to save one of your immediate family or best friend? -
Also, that last question is a bogus problem.
It makes no sense to die for faith or principle. Think about it, you're taking an incredible gamble, and one you do NOT know the potential ramifications of. You do know the results if you were to renounce your faith--life goes one, you know what it entails. Whereas if you refuse and take the bullet in the head you're risking the unknown. No one knows what is on the otherside. It's a gamble only a crazy person would make, therefore if you do choose to stand for these so called priniciples you are no longer a rational being. At least IMO.
EDIT**
not shorty's problem but the third one in the OP -
that was the way I intended it - "kill a random person"
