1. so me and like 6 or 7 buddies are out at this bar drinkin and what not. around midnight we decide we're gonna hit up another bar right by there, and ask for our bill. so we get it, and because the place serves "beer bongs", which is basically a big ass tube of beer and you get one for like 4 or 5 people, there was some confusion on how to split the tab. anyway, we get tab and are in the process of paying when the manager comes up and is like(girl) "you guys having a good time, ect ect. oh well then how come you only tipped my waitress 2 dollars on a 200 dollar bill"

immediately im like wtf, we havnt even actually payed yet, let alone gotten to the tip, wtf are you talkin about bish?

she kinda gives this confused look and trys to continue saying that we didn't tip right or whatever, so i start being kind of a dick head saying she is completely wrong, we havnt payed let alone tipped and either way who the fuck are you to come up and ask us about tips regardless.

so after that she says shes gonna go sort it all out, comes back with some vouchers for free shit i guess saying she is really sorry it was a mixup with another table and some other bull shit, and me and my friends pretty much brushed off her apology and told her how unprofessional it was to do that and how awful she made her business look.

the only reason i felt bad because the server(who was pretty cute and really nice and sorry no pics, ill try and remember a camera next time i go up there) came back kinda crying and felt really bad about the whole situation. but we tipped 25%, so didnt feel too bad.

just curious how ot would react. go....

  2. I would understand that mixups happen and let it go when I'm sober.

Completely blow it outta proportion when drunk.
  3. you guys acted pretty standard imo, and tipping well after is what i would have done too, especially if i planned on going back there.
  4. Eh, I'm torn on this...

The manager was way in the wrong in this situation. First off, she approached you guys when it was another table that she was upset with.

Secondly, tipping is not mandatory. I've worked in the restaurant industry for a number of years of my life, so I fucking hate people who don't tip or don't tip well.... but that doesn't give me the right to say anything to them.

I think you guys handled it just fine. Good that she apologized, but you guys shouldn't have ever had to deal with that. Hopefully the vouchers were for some good stuff. Come back next time and hope the recognize you and maybe you'll get hooked up even more.

Oh and props to you for tipping well after the fact. Very classy and +EV to your karma rating.
  5. tipping bartenders 25%...wat? pretty sure standard for bartenders is 10% and 15% absolute max.

no way you tip that much esp after being insulted and then made feel bad so you overtip, sounds like a ploy to me idk. also not sure why the manager is coming out. seems weird. im sure bartenders get stiffed by drunks all the time, its just part of the business.

  6. Fucked up by coming over to bitch about a tip. You could tip $0 and not be in the "wrong" to some people. Just sort the situation out reasonably and it's all good.
  7. I'd say ur reaction is pretty normal given the mix-up. It's completely standard for manager's to check on the quality of service if there is a tip of less than 15%. I don't know why you left 25%, but as a server I'd be pretty happy even w/ the mix-up.
  8. yea it was the girls second night and the manager said she feels she needs to ask why people weren't satisfied with their visit when they don't tip enough i guess? idk, she was a crazy bish, i just kinda nodded, smiled, and left.

Yea, it's actually a lot more common than you'd think. The restaurant I work at will question any tip under 15%, but it's also Newport Beach...so if anyone of our customers tips less than 15% either the server fucked up big-time or the customer is old as fuck.
  10. I would`ve acted nicely with a few smart ass remarks probably, but just about any of my friends would been a dick and probably caused a huge seen. I would have though 100% not took the vouchers and depending upon how much I had 2 drink told her where she could put them. Props for still tipping big(25% she must have been cute). Whether I ended up tipping or not I would`ve tried to imply to manager that I wasn`t on account of her. She kinda sounds like 1 of those bulldyke managers who is overprotected of the help/wants to bang em. You know the 1`s you can tell just by looking at em their dick is bigger than yours

Well everyone in any kind of service industry says fuck you and gtfo.
  13. I understand if she was asking, why did you only tip 2 dollars, if she was questioning the ability of her waitress to provide good service. But i think she could/should of used a diffrent lanuage. More like, "I was wondering if you guys had a good time and how was the service"

    you're a retard.

try coming to a country that doesn't have tipping and see how shit the service is compared to anywhere in america.

you really don't know what you are talking about

  15. also, youre young, so your whole bar experience is probably small. but be careful with tabs, at some point youll get screwed by the bartender and have extra drinks and bs on there because he/she thinks youre too drunk to do anything about it well because you really cant. i was in a fight with a bartender over this before (inflating my tab, either cuz he didnt like me or some bs to get a bigger tip) cuz he did it to me one week. so i brushed it off on week 1 even tho i def said something to him but i was a little drunk. week 2 before we go into the bar i tell my friends im gonna watch my drinks and tell them to make sure how much i get. well end of the night, same bs and im completely sober, after he tells me im a drunk and dont know what im talkin about, well things got escalated haha. i jump up over the counter and grab him and start pulling him over the bar and as i throw him to the ground and about to start beating his ass the bouncers stop me. turns out this kid was a prick and i wasnt the first person to have had this problem with him. he got fired and i got free entry for basically life.

also, if youre in a college town be careful about yelling out your tab name to the bartender, or youll get a whole different group of guys drinks on your tab haha

hello person who has had all kinds of sick shit done to their food. wp
  19. If a restaurant's waiters do not provide good service that restaurant is going to fail. The customer is always right in any industry. The customer is number 1 and should be treated as such.

Waiters should be expected to give the best service possible. Instead waiters expect to get tipped on every table they wait on.

    Fuck that.
  20. I didn't say I don't tip. In fact I always tip because of that reason that I don't want shit done to my food by some piece of shit of a human being that works at a restaurant and thinks I owe him something for doing his job.

I also always tip because I'm not going to look bad in front of a date.

The system is fucking retarded and of course all you idiots who have worked in a place where you get tips are going to be mad at me for saying fuck tipping.

Of course you're not going to like somebody not wanting to put more money in your pocket. Doesn't make it right though.

Not tipping at a place is fine if you never want to go back there . I promise you 100% if your stiffing waiters and going back to the same place you have ingested a waiters urine atleast once.
  22. Somebody who would do that is a piece of shit of human being and probably has worse going on in their life than ingesting a little urine.
  23. Police officers, Librarians, Nurses, Teachers, and Firefighters provide 10x more of a service than bringing you a plate that YOU paid for. There are way more jobs than just those that provide service to you and don't get tips.

Why the fuck do we not tip these people ?

Because they make more than minimum wage ?

So we should reward underacheivers ?

Everyone should do their fucking job to the best of their ability. Doesn't matter what job you have. Get that in your fucking head stupid waiters.
  24. The basic salary for a waiter is way less than a regular cashier just bc they depend on tiping. If you dont tip they probably make like 20 to 25k a year.

In Japan, you are not expected to tip. In fact they get offended if you do. Japan is known for very good service.

But yea I don't know what I'm talking about and you're a fucking know it all.

They depend on tipping because the restaurant passes on the cost of paying their employees to the customer. Which is wrong imo.

Some places waiters make more than minimum wage, some places waiters make less or make minimum wage.
  27. I'd have become loudmotherfuckingwinner
  28. I think you handled the situation very well, especially given the fact that everyone has been drinking. The tip was on the high side, but you like the place, and it is not unusual for them to inquire whether the service was ok, especially when a new person has been serving.

As for people messing with your food if you don't tip and are a repeat customer, it probably happens on occasion; I worked in a restaurant years ago, and it never crossed my mind to do anything to someone's food just because they didn't tip last time, and I never saw anyone else doing anything either. Of course we were pissed, but just chalked it up to being part of the business.
  29. I always overtip at bars that I go to regularly. Your drinks are stronger, you won't get charged for drinks you didn't order and the waitress will always make sure you aren't going thirsty.

Hell - I'll overtip most of the time when I'm out drinking. If I'm going to be running a tab (and it will be more than $40), then I make sure to slip the waitress a $5 or $10 with the first round. I generally don't go out to party on a budget.

WTF, most servers make $2.13 an hour. It doesn't even cover tax deductions. I worked in the restaurant industry for 5 years and 90% of my checks were $0.00

If you don't tip they make about 5-6k a year.

If you are in a state where servers make minimum wage then they might make 10-15k.

Tipping is essential and mandatory (for any decent human being) except in the most extreme cases of bad service. I'm talking rude, got everything wrong and didn't give a shit, tells you to fuck off if you don't like it service.

Anything less than 15% for adequate service is an insult.

Not tipping at all is theft. You just stole that person's labor.

If you don't want to tip go to McDonalds.
