Just wondering. I've heard some crazy theories from people who refuse to get it. From "the government is going to kill us" to "all vaccines are bad".
My kids are getting vaccinated on Thursday. My work is setting something up for employees in a couple of weeks.
I don't think swine flu is very deadly but I think it's going to spread like crazy this winter, so we're just looking to avoid the hassle more than anything else. -
My youngest has asthma, so she gets a flu shot every year. The rest of us never do and probably won't this year either.

I'm a carrier and have nothing to fear. -
hopefully i dont die from it, that would be embarassing
-
I am replacing most of my body fluids with alcohol to combat it. Wish me luck

Bah, I just checked with our office manager and the shots we're getting at work are only for seasonal flu, not swine flu. Apparently, they are only doing the swine flue vaccine for kids and old people.
I get flu shots if I remember, probably about half the time. It's never been a big deal to me, but I kind of want to the swine flu one. -
unless your immune system is absolute shit, swine flu is no worse than regular flu.
-
No plans, but I did hear yesterday that the son of a client is in ICU with a secondary infection or virus or something that results from the H1N1, so I may reconsider and make some plans. Bottomline is if you get sick from this your condition can apparently deteriorate quickly. When in doubt get to the hospital/doctor immediately.
-
Never once even thought about it. It will go away just like every other silly little sickness fad the government likes to try and scare us with. (bird flu, West Nile virus, monkey pox, aids, etc)
-
Do the same thing I do to prevent the regular flu.
Absolutely nothing. -

what a crock of shit.
i wont be getting one. media/gov has played this out to be the plauge. 1976 the gov said the swine flu would kill 1 million americans. it didnt..and i think it was like only 33% of people got the swine flu vaccine. such a low number was because the vaccine actually killed people instead of helped them....just sayin. -
Knock on wood, my kids are healthy and have no conditions that would make them weak against the flu virus, or swine. That said, hell no we arent getting a flu shot.
fwiw both my boys (6 and 4) came down with the flu (probably swine) last friday night... they ran temperatures and pretty much laid around and slept until Sunday afternoon and were ready to go back to school on Tuesday. Now they have been exposed, their body's have responded, and they are stronger for it.
Healthy adults who get a flu shot are weak sauce. imo these things only compromise your body's ablilty to fight off colds natuarally. -
I won't be getting this shot, much less any vaccine in the future. For anyone who cares about their family, before your vaccinate, educate. Read the article I will link to below, as it also has solutions for countering the flu.

I'm with the Drs and Nurses in NY who are refusing the vaccine. We stand with the greenhouse gassers in believing that a pandemic will go a long way in reducing CO2 emissions from us pesky humans.
-
This. I've never had a flu shot and I haven't had the flu since I was a kid. I've been sick like three times the past decade, and two of those times were after destroying my body for several days in a row in Vegas.
-
got my regular flu shot last week but not on the swine. maybe we will, maybe we wont. who knows.
-
Prob gonna get a flu shot, or just stop eating raw pigs.
One of the two for sure. -
I think I already had it. Not 100% sure, but I got sick for the first time in about 3-4 years, and I'm guessing it was swine flu. My immune system is pretty bad ass most of the time, so I'm not getting it.

Here is a link to a video where a doctor is pushing the H1N1, and yet his wife says later in the clip that she WON'T IMMUNIZE HIS 4 KIDS WITH IT!!! This alone should say that they aren't safe (you may have to watch advertising before you can actually watch the clip itself). For those who watch CNN, you may have seen this clip about 7-14 days ago.

I'm waiting for Obama to tell me what to do.
-
Also this. Though I don't think I ever had the flu as a kid either. Other than a kidney stone, I haven't had anything worse than a cold since middle school.
-
I am pretty sure my 3 year old actually had it last year. By the time she got sick it was already way deep into the season and the pediatrician said that there was no reason to even test.
She had flu-like symptoms for about a week and then she was fine. Never ran too high a fever either.
I'm not saying to immunize or not, just that it wasn't so serious for us last year. That said, the fact that there might be a shortage of vaccines this year might make me consider it more than I would normally.
Bottom line is that I told my wife to ask the pediatrician what he is doing with his kids and follow suit.
Good luck. -
Whoa, no need to bring science into this discussion.
-
yup, this

The key word I wrote was "naturally."

By injecting yourself with a dead (mutated or whatever it may be) virus along with all the other crap they put into those vaccinations you are doing it unnaturally with the potential for unknown side effects.
If the vaccination was for a deadly, debilitating and/or contagious disease ie Small pox, polio, tb etc that the body cannot overcome naturally... a person would be crazy not to get the vacc.
However, for a simple flu and healthy people... its effin retarded. -
Considering im not a baby or about to die, nothing
but obv wash hands and dont be stupid sharing bowls and such -
I agree with this to some extent. My wife was sick in bed for 2 days after she got her flu shot last year. Drs said it was somewhat normal. Doesn't seem worth the risk, assuming of course that H1N1 is mostly like a regular flu.

Flu shots for the elderly or very young make sense because they could be dangerous. -
flu shots have always confused me. i watched my dad get it once and he was the sickest he had ever been in his life. this is apparently a normal "reaction." well why the fuck take the chance that you get super sick from the vaccine when you dont even know if you'll actually get it anyway?
i've also seen multiple doctors on the news saying they wont let their kids get it because the current strain is so weak its actually not as bad as the regular flu -
I was sick a few weeks back (hell, I'm still sick). Went to the doctor's office (3 days after the symptoms started) and he indicated that I likely had the swine flu (based on the symptoms I described). While not officially diagnosed as having H1N1 - I'm assuming that I did.
So I developed bronchitis after the flu (which is fairly common and has been lingering for almost 2 weeks now). When I followed up with my doctor, I asked him, can I get it again, and he indicated yes. While your body does build up immunities, there is no way of knowing whether or not I had a seasonal flu or H1N1. They are different strains of the flu.
So in a few weeks, after my bronchitis symptoms have been gone for a few days, I'm planning on getting both shots if available. And I'm not worried about it all. I figure by that time, enough people will have gotten shots and we'll know if there are problems with the vaccines.
And if you think that the government is doing this for any other reason than providing protection against these viruses - then LOL at you. If the government wanted to "thin the herd", there are a lot better ways to do it.
