  1. so before last week, i would always be able to get a good nights rest. i would usually sleep at 2am and wake up refreshed at 1030-11. however, ever since last week, every night i am restless, i wake up at like 4am,6am,8am, and just in general feel extremely tired during the start of the day. for some reason... now i can't even sleep past 830am (even if i sleep at 2-3am). the part that bothers me is that i'm not sure why this is happening. it just came out of nowhere. it's not like a started a new job or anything... i've had the same daily routines for the past few months, and sleep was fine until last week.

i'm leaning towards the fact that this problem probably has something to do with me mentally.. i haven't been able to find a job for the past 2 months, and i'm starting to feel frustration, so maybe that's it. anyone got any suggestions or tips on how to defeat this problem? anyone in OT ever deal with a sleeping problem? how did you conquer it?

  3. I got alcohol poisoning when I was 21 and for about 6months I could only sleep 30mins-1hr a night if that and just could never think clearly...Was the worst time of my life, finally after 6months it just came crashing down on me. I was watching a movie and fell asleep for like 18hrs or something, woke up jumping for joy for sure. As for now days, just get 3-6 hours of sleep whenever possible and just force myself to keep going when needed. ez game!\

I suggest taking some Melatonin about an hour before bed, it works. Take double or triple the recommended dose though.

  5. I grind my teeth and I do the same thing where I wake up a million times. Mine is all because of stress but even when I was on prozac I still had sleeping problems. I have my little ritual and it helps me not wake up so much but I am also just a restless sleeper I think.

I would say you have to find a ritual that winds your body down and gets you mentally in the state of okay its time for night night.
  6. I use to wake up with a loud ringing in my head, i would open my eyes, but i would be completely paralyzed. Struggling in my mind to lift my face off my pillow. Never saw a doc about it, hasn't happened in a long time (knock on wood). Was some scary shit.
  7. I have had night terrors since I was a kid. It has yet to go away(without the aid of pills).

melatonin got me on a normal sleeping routine. they sell 1 mg, 3mg, and 5 mg pills. You might just be taking a weaker pill.

Have the 3mg, It says to take 1 pill but that def doesn't cut it. I usually just do 2 and 3 if I am just wide awake and need to pass out within an hour or so.
  12. I snore like a motherfucker so my gf wakes me up constantly to get me to lay on my side, she also snores so I do the same with her, she's also Type1 diabetic so this presents a host of other night time episodes...so neither of us has really had a good night's sleep since we moved in together 5 years ago.

This man is a wise one. Whacknaps FTW
  14. Maybe one time a year I can sleep for more than 4 hours straight without waking up. Also every single time I attempt to fall asleep before midnight I wake up before 3AM completely refreshed. This would be good except that I get extremely exhausted again at like 7 or 8.
  15. withdrawling from opiates and yea it goes away as soon as you boom another 80

  16. wtf, for some reason i can't reply with quote, whatevers.

Patthecat - this happened to me before too, its called sleep paralysis. Funny thing is a couple of friends and I just randomly talked about this a few days prior. It never happened to me before so didn't know there was such a thing. Once I woke up and couldn't move, I was like oh snap, this is what they were talking about. I wasn't scared per se because I knew what was going on. If it happened and I wasn't aware of this phenomenon, I would've tweaked out for sure.

OP - if you are looking for meds over the counter to help you sleep, try melatonin like others have suggested or Benadryl 25mg. Make sure you get at least 6-7 hours of sleep if you take Benadryl bc it can make you groggy in the morning. From your post, it seems like there are anxiety issues that are contibuting to the sleep issues. Your situation sounds a lot like my friend's. The Dr put him on Lexapro 10mg a day. Although this med is for depression/anxiety, resolving this will definitely give you a better night's sleep. You need to give it about a month to really kick in though. If you are like fuck it I can't wait that long, PM Leftymark for some Ambien

    +1

Opiate withdrawals gave me the worst insomnia ever. I still cannot sleep due to stress and I am lucky to get 3 straight hours. Ive been walking a few miles a day and it my sleep appears to be improving. Give it a try if you have the time. Best wishes, you may want to get some help from your doctor.
  18. Sleep problems usually end up to be stress related. I went through a bad bout of it a few years ago. One thing that helped a lot was one of those white noise machines that a friend bought me. I would put it on every night when i went to bed and it worked like a charm to help me relax.
  19. My biggest problem is sleep anxiety. I can literally wake up at any given time in the morning without an alarm, the only problem is if I want to wake up at 6:00, I'll be up at 5:20 for the fear of oversleeping. It really sucks and I have no clue how to get rid of it. I'm just scared my alarm won't go off and I'll oversleep and miss something.
  20. I snore like a motherfucker. Girlfriends have said that I rarely stay asleep for more than 30 minutes. This changes when I am in the midst of a 21-day cleanse that I do every once in a while to get cheap bourbon, flour, caffeine and nicotine out of my system and drop some fat. I'm starting the cleanse on Sunday, so hopefully I can get some sleep in the next few weeks.
  21. I too have sleep apnea lolsigh

I always look forward to being de-floured.
  23. For me, going for a run/working out is huge. I feel like it kick-starts a bunch of things in my body that may have been dormant and at the end of the day all I can do is pass out.

As for stress, I'd suggest just trying to focus on specific issues and ways to make them better. Once I know a given problem is resolved my mental state improves greatly. gl...
