Looking at Wagner, his face still round and boyish, his shoulders still thick like grapefruits beneath his shirt, it's hard to believe it's been more than a decade since he slammed an exclamation point on all the hype that once surrounded him - when on Jan. 16, 2001, he scored 100 points in a high school game and established himself as a player so skilled on the hardwood that the "Messiah" tattoo on his left biceps seemed an apt nickname.

Great article about a player I followed while playing basketball in High School, truly one of the Greatest High School players ever.

  2. Was a stud at Memphis as well

  3. Great read, love catching up on guys like this. Not that I was anywhere close to this level of skill, but I think a lot of people take the idea of professional sports for granted. "It's just a game"? It's a battle that some people can never overcome.
  4. Would be awesome if he could make a comeback and play a role on a team.

Shit, he can come play for my Rockets
  5. I went and saw him play against Paul VI high school which is right around the corner. He was a fucking STUD in HS.
  6. nice article.. beside the part where the writer rambles about himself for 3 paragraphs. thanks for posting

    this^

I so hope he is able to come back. That love of the game is what makes basketball, to me, the greatest sport. Those who have the feeling for it long to be a part of it, whether playing or some other connection. Hoops lovers always seem to appreciate that about each other and the game

ps really enjoyed thanks for posting
  9. good read
  10. Great Article. I remember watching him play whenever we could get into the games. By far the best HS basketball player I have ever seen.

I was most surprised to find out that he had Colitis, as a person who has a family member that suffers from this disease his case/career now makes a lot more sense. He wasn't aware until a few years into the NBA he had this problem, there is just no way that he could compete at the level needed while being unaware of this disease.....that is when the real battle began for him. Not saying pro sports aren't a battle in general but he def. dealt a terrible hand to overcome. Will be very impressed if he comes back, seems like he has colitis under control and is well on his way.
