I don't miss this routine on any trip to Chitown: Chili/Chicago Dogs at Portillo's and stop at Garrett's popcorn for a big bag of the Chicago mix popcorn (caramel and cheese) for the trip home.
-
Lou Malnati's deep dish pizza
Cubs game (bleacher seats)
boat tour on the Chicago river
just an FYI Sears Tower is now called Willis Tower -
Awsome i hope Chi town pizza holds up to the hype. now if i could just score a couple dimes of herb......
-
what you talkin bout willils?
-
Do you think 40 years from now people will still be calling it Sears tower? I do. I can't imagine ever switching but maybe as our generation gets older the younger generation will start to call it Willis.

Anyways...if you have a girl with you that you really want to impress and are willing to spend some money, go to the top of the Hancock building for drinks and dinner. It is absolutely amazing and girls love it. It's even good for a mandate it's pretty cool up there.
People covered a lot of the other good stuff. If the weather is nice in Chicago you can literally just start walking from the train station and keep busy all day for a week straight, you can't go wrong.
Stay away from the National guard areas also. -
Thank you to everyone for all the great ideas. Off we go!!!

priority one shold be to just stay alive

you could see a Bulls playoff game.... oh wait the Cavs raped them
Try Gino's East deep dish. It's better than Giordano's imo
Also Millenium Park is pretty cool.
I don't have much else for you because I usually only hop on the train from South Bend for day trips -
just don't hang out in the loop the entire time, the outskirts of the loop is where all the best stuff is.
take the brown line north to irving park, walk two blocks west to lincoln, take a right and walk 2 blocks north and go to horseshoe. real dark old school saloon style bar that make the best bowl of red chilli.
they also have a burger aptly named 'the horseshoe' which is one piece of texas toast under a half pound burger topped with about 5 layers of steak fries drenched in cheese sauce. it's pretty much the mother fucking shit.

also a real authentic german beirstube about one block west past lincoln on irving park called 'resi's beirstube'. hundreds of thick heavy german beers and food about as german as it gets. if that sounds up your alley, highly recommended.

venture out a little if you feel like it....the tour of the city on the brown line is worth the trip in itself. you get to go past cabrini green, lincoln park, wrigley field, through the loop, and great views of the skyline near the sedgewick stop. -
If you are going to get pizza, for god's sake get Lou Malnatis. I am assuming anyone saying differently is not from Chicago, but has just visited.
Gino's East and Giordano's are tourist traps. -
This...although I disagree on Giordano's. I think it's very good, but Lou's is just on another level of greatness.
-
jroth, i hope you get the butter crust. mmmmmmmmmmmmm
-
How does this compare to Gino's East? I just went to Chi for a job interview with my gf and we really wanted to try the pizza and a friend said Gino's was the place! Pizza was great and the restaurant itself was pretty cool. I rate it 8/10, pizza itself was probably really like 7.5 but the experience added a bit.

OP, stay north of loop and east of 90/94 if possible (Wrigville, Lincoln Park, River North); shit gets wild as you south, southwest and west from there
