These threads always tilt me because every roll is different depending on which restaurant you go to.
Saying you like the "Dragon" roll or the "Spicy Tuna Roll" means nothing unless we are all talking about the same Sushi joint.
fwiw. -
Philly.
This roll called the Rocky Mountain Roll at a local place here in Denver called Kobe Ann. It is like a Cali with masago inside and salmon on it and then it is tempra deep fried. SF good.
Also the orgasm and multiple orgasm rolls from another local place called Hapa. They call them that for a reason. -
this. some places have phenomenal spicy tuna rolls....others are sooo fuckin cheap and just put globs of the spicy mayo/sauce inside
-
California rolls with king crab instead of the imitation crab garbage.

i need to balls up and try sushi, have never liked seafood but everyone raves about this stuff, even non seafood lovers
-
I've said the same thing. It has to be peer pressure. I've tried it from several places and have yet to find anything even remotely decent tasting.

i've tried to like sushi many times to avoid being ostracized. it's not happenin.

Sushi depends more on where you get it than what, specifically, is inside it because certain places make everything well and certain places can't even make a good california roll...
Of course living in Seattle there is good sushi all over the place, but because I love stuff like uni and ikura

it gets pretty expensive... I don't do as many rolls because I'd rather just eat the fish generally, but love me some spicy tuna, eel avocado is always a good combo, and I really like uni and gobo (burdock i think in english, giant root vegetable) rolls that I get at my favorite sushi place out here...
There was a funky sushi place in Rochester that we always went to in college that used lots of nontraditional ingredients, where awesome rolls were like salmon, raspberries, chilli sauce, and cream cheese, etc... here's a photo of the Albino Roll, their dessert roll, featuring bananas and raspberries in rice, then tempura'd and fried (the whole roll), then dipped in chocolate and covered in coconut... good stuff.

I had sushi for the first time at an actual sushi restaurant last Saturday... and it was actually really good... I had some smoked salmon and some yellowfish/ kingcrab... the seaweed wrap was a little strong, so the next time I go I will most likely get the soy wrap... I wasnt a big fan of any of the garnish/sauce it came with, but the house soy sauce was awesome...
Im a big fan of trying new foods, and very suprised it took me this long to adapt sushi... if you are just trying it out for the first time, dont try sushi at an average china buffet, its just not the same... Ive tried it at these places before therefore never thought I would like it, but a place that makes specifically sushi, makes a world of difference.. -
^^ that loks good like a mini banana tempura, but with chocolate and coconut mmm
I like spicy tuna, cali, and mexican rolls (shimp tempura and avocado)
