I guess black people think johnny cochrane is some kind of national hero

Johnny Cochrane is dead? I guess we all paid so much attention to the Kardashians that I missed that.

I asked if I could defer the job a year or two because I wanted to go to Japan and they said that someone who wants to defer their career fast track is not the sort of person they're looking for. Can't tell you how happy I am that I gave up on my major, since everyone there died.

The following summer I spent a month in Indonesia, the last two weeks of which were in Bali. I stayed in this pretty insanely cheap hotel where you couldn't go to bed early because the music from the club next door was too loud, so my friend and I just went to the club every night. It was called the Sari Club, look it up. We flew out on August 12th. On October 12th, some asshole set off two bombs at the Sari Club and at another club across the street, first setting off a bomb at one club so that everyone would run out of the other to see what happened, then setting a carbomb off right in front of the other club once everyone was outside. Pretty sick.

Mid-December 2004, my mom called me and, for pretty much the first time ever, was insanely angry and vulgar with me, calling me an asshole because I was the only member of the family who had ever missed a Christmas and I was about to miss my 4th in a row. 2001 was Koh Samui, Koh Phagnan, and Bangkok. 2002 and 2003 I worked my way around other parts of Thailand and Cambodia. Mom begged me to change my flights and come home, and I told her it was too expensive but she insisted that it would be my Christmas present and she'd take care of it. I cancelled my flights to Phuket and went home to CT. The morning after Christmas, I was rudely awoken by my 65 pound Siberian Husky leaping into my bed and landing on my nuts, and when I woke up I saw my parents and brother standing in the doorway. Mom was weeping, Dad had a very rare (not an emotional guy, that one) look of serious distress, and even my little brother looked upset. "Uh, what now?" I asked. "Turn on the TV," said Dad. "What channel?'' "Any channel." Pretty much the worst thing someone can say. The whole family came over that day for a second day of celebration, celebrating me fading that fucking tsunami.

I faded 9/11 and the tsunami, just missed the Bali bombing, and have walked away from a couple wrecks that I never should have walked away from, like the motorcycle taxi wreck last month in Boracay where the driver hit a dog, killed the dog, trashed his bike, smashed his face up on the pavement, had a kneecap sticking out one leg, and I had a couple flesh woulds and somehow no head or knee injuries despite flying off a motorbike with no helmet. I'm freerolling life.

Oh and Ricky Moore cockslapping Trajan Langdon and all the rest of the Duke bitches in 1999 earning me a couple grand for the first UConn title was pretty epic.

wow that's nuts. EAT IT LANGDON!!!!!!!1
  6. Im still mad at my school for hiding 9/11 from us. I didnt hear about anything that happened until 7th period, which was like 1:00 in the afternoon. Some kids obv heard, but the majority of us didnt hear or see shit about it, and the ones that did know, were told not to tell anyone.

My mom was out of the state and one of the first people to get on a plane after 9/11. Still crazy thinking of that day.
  7. 9/11 - freshman @ OU, hungover & asleep. woken up by phone call from parents to turn on TV

OJ slow chase - at the Texas Ranger game, all the in-stadium-TVs had been changed to the news coverage and no one at the stadium was watching the game

His Father was a VP with Bell Canada, so all the toys were available (she was a Bell Cellular CSR so had one of the very first cell phones in Ontario. Remember those antennae on car windows?). I am going to say somewhere between 1986/88, because the family moved to Texas that year. He was so proud of those "evidence" stickers on his computer gear, too.

Since when do you know Matthew Broderick?

Reason: columbine jumps out too. that was some historic shhhheitt
  18. 9/11, had just shown up in the band room to stow away my trombone and news about the first tower was on the TV. I don't remember how much I saw live, but I do recall how the principal ordered all the TVs turned off shortly after the second one got hit. There were several near-riots about that decision over the course of the day.

When Bin Laden was killed, I was in my dorm trying to finish my senior thesis, which was due the next day. Was virtually impossible to write with all the people running around the halls/streets/everywhere screaming "USA"

  20. officially never hanging out with Zander again.

    fucking final destination shit.

I was at american school. I still remember that day like it was yesterday.

Watching 9/11 by the Naudet brothers today
  21. I think 9/11, Columbine, and OJ chase stand out the most.

9/11 - Sitting in English class when the principal came in and pulled my teacher out then she came back in looking real distraught. Said we were all meeting in the gym soon but she couldn't discuss why to avoid rumors. She then decided if she could find the news story on the internet she would be ok to talk about it lol. Every news site was soooooo slow to load but she got it and we found out what happened.

Columbine - I was pitching in a baseball game and didn't hear a word about it until after the game when my parents told me what had happened and when they left for the game I don't think there was a total conclusion about the killers, how many killed, etc so we listened about it on the radio.

Edit - Columbine happened on my birthday so I think something about that one really stuck with me since it was "my day" and something so shitty had happened.

OJ Chase - My mom, dad, brother, and I were downstairs watching tv (cubs game I believe) and the news story broke. They wanted to watch the game but my dad and I sat up in his bedroom together watching the whole thing. Don't know why but this one was a good memory of just dad and I sitting together watching something historic.

  22. Wasn't everybody trying to watch the NBA Finals for OJ chase? They left for the chase and wouldn't even let you watch the game anymore, what a joke that was. Bullshit!

Shit happens right after I leave, not when I'm actually present. It's safe to hang with me, just don't go anywhere I've been recently. So if you want to avoid my last 3 months, stay out of Malaysia, Australia, Philippines, and Vietnam and you're good.

Your bday is 4/20 so its not really "your day" anyway...

I remember the Columbine date bc I was a freshman in HS and it was the first time I smoked "kb" instead of usual brown dirt weed. I was higher than I had ever been in life and watched the end of the Columbine shit live on TRL with Carson Daly...he was dreamy.

  26. 9/11- was in 8th grade algebra 1 when the first plane hit, heard about it then went to English and watched the second plane hit.

OKC bombing- I was in 2nd grade I think and I remember doing my advance math work with a couple other kids when I was called down to the principals office. My mom was there and we drove to OKC. My dad had worked in the building but luckily he made it out alive.
  27. 9-11 i was in my first class of the day my senior year HS. rest of day was a blur, we just sat around all day talking about the planes, the airports and all the shit that was destroyed and whatnot. it was pretty scary and the one thing i can remember is feeling like we were under attack and how weird that felt.

OJ i remember watching the whole bronco chase and realizing how huge that story was at that moment. prior to that, it was a big deal, but when EVERY SINGLE CHANNEL was tuned into the chase, even MTV and ESPN and all the networks/news channels, you knew it was going to be the biggest deal in news for a long time.

i also vividly remember the verdict coming back. i was still in 6th grade and we didn't have TVs in all the rooms and whatnot at this school. our stupid cunt of a teacher was like "we're not going to listen to the verdict we're giong to focus on our work" and then someone from the other class burst through the door and yelled "THEY'RE ANNOUNCING THE VERDICT" and literally everyone left class LOL. stupid cunt, like she could keep us all from listening to that historic moment.

don't really remember regan getting shot, lennon, or anything much prior to the early 90s. i remember the LA riots and i remember the OKC bombings and whatnot but it was all when i was pretty damn young, same with gulf war 1, and david koresh. i remember watching TV coverage of all that stuff, but i was still single-digit years old.
