really think are stanley cup material again this year as long as they can hold consistent with goaltending/defense, although I only watch penguins games so i'm not sure if blackhawks detroit are just as good if not better this year. thoughts? watching this pit vs FL game (yes its FL i know) has me pretty happy after coming off a 6-1 win against phoenix(again i know) but they also had that 12 or 13 winning streak which was hot too.
in the end this could just be an i love penguins thread but truly curious who i should be worried about taking my pens out this year? :D -
Red Wings are healthy/better this year
-
LOL @ the Pens coming out of the East, gl beating the Flyers this year.

The Hawks are def not as good this year...lost a lot of contributing players in off season. Philly looks pretty damn good this year.
-
pretty sure you have to be a pens fanboy to think that the Pens will get by the Flyers this year
-
Hawks look shaky at best... I'm thinking a first round playoff exit. Penguins are very good but hockey is a weird game, if they happen to find a team that matches up against them, I can see another Montreal series occuring.
-
lol'd pretty good at the bolded part. I obv dont think that they Flyers will run over them, that will never happen with it being such a HUGE rival for both teams. I do however know that the pens can not match the Flyers line for line, the Flyers are very very deep and any team that takes 1 shift off vs them is gonna look very bad. I dont like how the Pens matchup with the Flyers line for line this year.
-
=) i'll admit i love my pens more than anything and i think the pens vs flyers series will be pretty awesome and they will most likely be the team that takes us out if someone does. so i guess the flyers are the answer to my thread question =p

also even tho i am supposed to hate the flyers i have a lot of respect for them in the past couple years with what they've done with their team to make them what they are today. -
I would have more respect for the Pens if they lost Crosby, but my pure hatred for him makes that nearly impossible.
-
Is "Phi" short for Philly? First time I've ever heard that.
Anyway, Flyers up 3-1 so far in season series with a convincing win the other night.
Answer: Flyers -
the constant crying, not bitching he does to the refs is one. But the fact that is a POS that dives non stoped is the one that puts it over the top for me. But that is just me, i have played hockey my entire life and still do to this day.
-
honestly dont see him diving nonstop... at least nowadays? do you continually see this and im just blind cause i like the pens? i know he talks to the refs but the dude obviouslyknows what hes talking about a lot of the time and im sure is just super super competitive and isn't giving up any edge but still i dont see him doing anything blatant lately but could be wrong
-
not nearly as bad as he has been, but the diving has been passed from him to the rest of the team. Tilts me to watch a pens game.

If you want to stick to your "i play hockey so i know" defense then you don't need to be told that the guy playing harder, going faster and keeping his legs moving is going to draw penalties. Besides that I would imagine a hockey player like yourself would support the games superstars instead of blindly hating them for essentially playing too hard. -
LOL @ all of this, you are either a HUGE pens fanboy, or you suck Crosby's dick. either way gtfo.

Hockey is a crazy retarded game, especially compared to other sports and even more so when it comes to the playoffs....its not like the NBA where u can easily predict at least one conference's representative in the finals....Like last year in the NBA for example, it was obvious to anybody who knows anything about sports that the Lakers were coming out of the West....in a 7 game series in bball, the best team almost always wins - in hockey its a different situation - how many times do you the #1 and #2 seeds bounced in the first round in the Stanley Cup playoffs?? It happens all the time - people thought the Caps were unbeatable last year and then Montreal (let's get serious - it was pretty much Halak) owned them in the first round last year....a whole series can transform from one bounce of the puck - it's what makes hockey and the Stanley Cup playoffs in particular so sick to watch.....it's the hotter team (or the team with the hot tender) that tends to beat the "better" team far more often than it theoretically should
As for your question this year the Pens have been a force, but so has Philly in the East - would be a sick East final imo....don't count out the Bruins though and Montreal is decent - obv Washington is struggling but i imagine they'll figure it out at some point.....in the West, the Wings are actually healthy this year and since they're always in the mix I'm sure they'll be right there deep in the playoffs again...Vancouver is another solid team as well -
Im hibernating till spring. Plus my income tax check will pay for my tickets.

Pens have surged lately, especially with Malkin putting up some stats. But the Flyers had their own surge going until they let their guard down vs FLA. In comparison, the Flyers are a better team than the Pens when healthy. Both goaltenders are playing well (which is a surprise since boucher is apparently made of swiss cheese). And the D is much improved from last year. Zherdev is also a surprise scoring machine this year. A good replacement for Gagne. Pronger needs to stay healthy tho. -
i dunno, lots of teams? this is the cap era nhl. there are a lot of really good teams
