while Van is the only team atm that really scares me, maybe i am a bit of a homer, but from watching the Flyers play i dont see how anyone can really beat them in a 7 game series. The depth on this team is unreal, if the goaltending holds gl NHL.
SPOT on -
NHL playoffs >>> March Madness.
Lets be honest here. -
By the way doesn't the province of Quebec still have rights to a few streets in Philly as part of the Lindros deal?
-
you can't compare the two, single elimination vs 7 game series, playing every other day for 6 weeks vs 2 games a week. All we would get is how many Cball fans are there vs how many NHL fans are there.

I do think it would be interesting if the NCAA made the finals a 3-game series, and it wouldnt surprise me if they did, money grabs.
No, but they (the franchise) has a right to 2 more Stanley Cups -
The only comparison I'll make is that I think march madness gets the edge just to the enormous gambling sweat that can be associated with it.

The fact that you have to take that into consideration makes the case for the NHL playoffs being more exciting better IMO.
-
I actually think they're pretty equal IMO.
Its when I factor in the gambling element that I give the edge to NCAAB -
Now that I have been able to watch the Flyers more, they scare me as a Pens fan. The Flyers are such a great team right now. I wish I could watch more of the West bc I really dont get to see that much. I would love a healthy Pens/ healthy Flyers matchup in the playoffs.
And obv what is done at the trade deadline can be huge. Shero has made some good moves for the Pens so it will be interesting. It is incredible what a hot goalie can do in the playoffs. -
Looks like Malkin is done for the year folks...
torn ACL/MCL

This is shaping up to be a rough weekend in Pittsburgh.
-
Gonna be a long 2nd half in the Pitts
-
First Gino, then the Steelers. Two seasons over on the same weekend.
-
The Habs beat the Rangers 2-0.j
Woot Woot!!!
Good start to Superbowl weekend.
One more Habs win and a Steelers V and the weekend will be complete.
Tough loss for the Pens with Malkin. -
The only time Vancouver had a legit shot and brutally choked in the playoffs is in '02-'03 when they had a 3-1 lead over Minnesota in the 2nd round with 8th seeded Anaheim in the conference finals on the horizon. The last 3 playoff appearances have been losses in the 2nd round to Chicago twice and Anaheim. All 3 times those teams had more points than us in the regular season, but once we had home ice because of the divisional winner seeding. Twice those teams went on to win the cup. I hardly call that choking. Vancouver hasn't had a legit cup contender till this year. The last two years only had outside shots if the team stayed healthy, which it didn't. If this team stays healthy and doesn't make it to at least the conference finals then I'll admit we choked. Detroit is pretty much equal with us when they're healthy, which it's looking like they will be when the playoffs start. Also they have a huge playoff edge so I wouldn't put us as a favourite against them even with home ice advantage. We'll see what happens when the playoffs come around though. I'm really hoping a healthy Vancouver/Detroit conference finals happens because that will be a great series to watch regardless of the outcome.

can someone explain to me why Malkin was even playing? wasn't his knee already fucked up pretty bad?
-
Malkin still on the Can't Cut List by yahoo

The Canucks have been great on the road this year so I think they'll win some road playoff games as well. They don't have the same post-season experience as Detroit this season but Canucks only lost to the eventual cup winners last year and this year they're so much better. If Cody Hodgson catches on fire we'll have 4 awesome lines, great defencemen and two possible goalies just an amazing team.
