I have to go through this intersection every night after work and I just about get hit every time, so either i don't know how to drive or half of this city doesn't.
- Vertical directions each have green lights, I'm turning right.
- The car at the top is waiting to turn left. They don't have a green arrow so they have to wait until it's clear to turn left. Most of the time they just wait for the people who are going straight to clear out and then start to turn but there's also my lane which almost always has more traffic than the lane that goes straight.
- If we both have green lights, I think i have the right of way to turn right
- 75% of drivers who are waiting to turn left at this intersection seem to think that they have the right of way to turn left once the middle lane is clear
- am i right or should i just start biking to work?
-
You definitely have the right of way...
-
agreed... you have the right of way there
-
of course you have the right of way in that situation.

the only time the left turner goes first is if the right turn is one of those mini exit ramp deals with a yield sign just before the turn. pretty much just like the top left in your pic -
um you have the right of way; obv
-
Took my drivers test in CA so I have no idea about any other states/countries but you have the right of way in CA. I almost get hit often in the same situation. Only thing that would make him have the right of way is if you were in a right turn only lane with a yield sign. Then again I could be wrong stopped giving a shit after I passed my drivers test.

bleh I am too slow -
Awesome, thanks guys. I'm not exaggerating when i say that i almost get hit 75% of the time in this situation, annoying as hell.

dude you really just need to keep your eyes open and not continue on just because you have the right of way. Just expect it and you will stay out of crashes. -
They call it right of way for a reason.
-
honk at and flip off the closest car turning left in front of you, every night. Change one bad driver at a time.
-
You have the right of way, no question.

If the road you're turning on to has two lanes, they have the right to turn into the left lane as you turn into the right lane. -
This. Make sure your lane doesn't have a yield sign.
-
God I love right-of-way threads
-
yeah, this is what i was going to post. is the road you are turning onto two lanes in your direction? if so you each have "a" right of way, them into the left lane, you into the right lane. but it looks like only one way from your drawing.
-
Take it from a cop, you have the right of way. /thread

If there is two lanes, the person turning right still has the right of way no matter what...what if the person turning right immediatly gets into the left lane? This is legal, and if the person turning left hits the person turning right (and merging into the left lane), then that person who turned left is still at fault -
you have the right of way but clearly there are a shit ton of people out there driving everyday that should definitely have their license taken away
-
good luck with that. if there is a yield sign for the right turner, that means at some point there is a green left turn arrow at some point for oncoming traffic, which in this case does not give the right turner the ROW.

what you just explained is just poor driving habits -
Edited By: BubbaKGB Sep 28th, 2011 at 03:46 PMNo, you are a bad driver. This is like saying the person in the right lane of a two-lane road can simply move into the left lane whenever the hell they want. If there are two lanes and you're turning right, you still have to make sure the left lane is free before you move into it. You can't just turn right into the left lane of a two-lane road. There is no yield sign (if I am reading the OP correctly), therefore the left turn person can ONLY turn when it is all clear....

Person turning right=right of way...person turning left has to yield to that person ALL THE TIME. This is not like switching lanes whenever they want, this is a merging situation (where one person clearly has the right of way over the other).Originally Posted by BubbaKGB

Edited By: BubbaKGB Sep 28th, 2011 at 04:02 PMHow is this a merging situation? If you turn right into the right lane of a two-lane road, you have zero right of way to the left lane unless it's free and open.Originally Posted by USCswimmer

The atheists always have the right of way.
Get out of the way Christians! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
::honk honk:: -
yes, and it should be free and open all the time because you have A GREEN LIGHT!!!
There is absolutely no situation in which someone turning right (on a green light) should ever have to worry about the person turning left from the other side of the road.
If OP turns right on his green light and decides to get in the left lane and someone who is turning left from the other way hits him, then that person is at fault.
OP....Right turn+Green light=complete right of way to either lane
Villain...No green left turn arrow+people turning right on other side=yield to people turning right no matter what -
From now on I should just drive a monster truck and whenever I see a car in front of me has one of those fish-symbol things on its bumper, just pretend that car doesn't exist and drive straight over it.
Uh oh, but what if there's a toddler in the child-safety-seat facing backwards looking at me all doe-eyed and shit? TOO BAD MOTHERFUCKAAAAA!!!!!! CRUNCHHHHHHHHH
lolz
