  1. now dont get me wrong I hate the system as much as anyone and i need it prolly more than most, however we are a capitalist society doctors run a business, insurance companys run a business

they survive by taking in more money than they spendthe same as ANY business McDonalds for example but nobody complains about that yes prices are high in health care but so is EVERYTHING ELSE nobody sits around bitching about the Taco or burger crisis

have we fallen into socialisim where we belive that the goverment should take care of us? as i said in an eariler post that thought is so far from where we started its not even funny

Part 2 did / do unions help or hurt the country i belive they were nessacary because of unscrupulos people that basically had a monoply at a time when employment was needed for most for the good of the country but that they now cause more problems than they are worth

Part 3 what do big corps do that is so wrong Walmart, Microsoft etc they didnt start big they grew big using the rules set up that made USA the most powerful country in the world(notice i dint say greatest) if bashing them are you not really bashing the American way of life?

fell free to add to what i have put or just go off on a tanget talking about things that have little to do with the topics at hand
  2. well comparing healthcare to tacos and burgers is laughable

healthcare is something that is vital to 100% of ppl who want to live a somewhat long and pleasant life, hardly comparable to a taco

part 2- half the words are mispelled so i will move on

part 3- walmart is evil, they pretty much force their suppliers to give them w/e prices they demand and tell them that if they dont, they will quit working w them
  3. Damn, well said Cmoney3.
  4. Why is that evil they are given a choice if you want our money this is the price we want to pay

    the supplier can certainly refuse

so you are a socialist Cmoney? in a capitalist system you buy or make or provide a service something that you can then sell for more money than it cost you to create it

the basic model is the excat same so you belive because its something we need or is more dear to the heart (life, heath) that you are OWED a good price/free on it?

  7. 1. Healthcare is available to everybody if they want it. The gov should not be involved anymore than they are.

    2. Unions may have been needed back in the day but I can't stand them. They def do not help the country.

    3. Companies like Walmart and Microsoft are great. If they were so evil they wouldn't be thriving like they both are.
  8. WalMart is the greatest place ever. THey have everything there and its all SFcheap.
  9. i think most people who work for companies that sell to Wal-Mart look at them differently than the average consumer. they are great places for shoppers, but they use their economic power to completely screw over their suppliers.

Wal-Mart not only sets the prices they want to pay suppliers, but they will also refuse to pay invoices AND tack on a $25 surcharge if the invoice is even ONE CENT different than the cost they believe they should be charged. the total of the invoice could be LESS than what Wal-Mart thinks they should pay and they will take the credit but still tack on the $25 surcharge.

if the invoice contains "unauthorized product" (i.e., new flavors that weren't approved by their corporate office), Wal-Mart will keep the product and sell it, but will not pay for the product, and will not pay the invoice that contained that product until the invoice is reprocessed without it (with the standard $25 surcharge, of course).

someone posted that the suppliers could refuse to sell to them. o rly? Wal-Mart is powerful enough and has so many connections that they can easily turn consumers away from any company who did that.
  10. Hold on...I need to grab my popcorn

Edit: Oops, out of popcorn. My shipment hasn't arrived from the government yet. I'm going to have to resort to my block of cheese.

  11. Remember, kids, when capital bands together and uses it's collective power, it's called lobbying, but when labor bands together and uses it's collective power, it's called TEH COMMUNISM!!!! OH NOES!!!! EVERYONE HAS AIDS!!!!!!!!ELEVENTYONEPOINTLESOUTRAGERABBLERABBLE
  12. Taken from Cmoney:

    "
healthcare is something that is vital to 100% of ppl who want to live a somewhat long and pleasant life, hardly comparable to a taco"

Food is vital. Shouldn't the government have a universal food program?

"part 2- half the words are mispelled so i will move on"

Your punctuation and lack of capitalization is horrid, so I will move on.

"part 3- walmart is evil, they pretty much force their suppliers to give them w/e prices they demand and tell them that if they dont, they will quit working w them"

This is business 101 and you have failed your first quiz. They're not out to make friends.

  13. So......... your saying all americans are prostitutes

we will take the $$ because we got into this situtation ourselves from choices we made but we still have the right to complain about getting fucked all the time?

instead of doing something about it? choosing not to accept that

in the early 80's when chrysler was in so much trouble CEO went to unions and said i have 1000's of jobs at $17 hr i have none at $20 ill be fine but if you dont want the $17 we will BK in the morning the leaders chose to take the cuts for the greater good they changed the way they did things and saved the company my point is all suppliers could make hard choices and do the same they dont have to do business with walmart etc but they wont do it

  14. In explaining the rationale behind her husband's ill-fated health reform plan in 1993, Hillary Rodham Clinton captured the essence of nanny-state thinking when she told a congressional panel: "We just can't trust the American people to make these types of decisions. Government has to make these choices for people."

I think this pretty much sums up the liberal-socialist mind set.
  15. tim the gem explained exactly why walmart is evil, i still shop there once a week for my food, doesnt mean i dont still think they are evil

theirs a cleer defference beetween speeelleng werds rite and youzing korrect punktulization, im ovbiouviosuly a reterd

sorry, i didnt realize this was a political thread when i made my first post, since it is i will stay the fuck out

i was jsut trying to answer OPs questions

  18. 2. i agree with your stance on unions.

    3. i differ on my reasons for why walmart is evil. they purposedly go into new places and drop their prices to effectively bankrupt small local companies. i find that sleezy. also, walmart treats their employees like crap and doesnt practice corporate social responsibility which i also find deplorable. plus it will hurt them in the long run.
  19. Care to tell me why Mr. Smith? Or is it just because you say so?

  20. i rather the government take more power in decision making than individuals (not total as republicans always make it out to be, they go to the extreme and say democrats will turn our country into communists) if there are people who think like artiecat. unfortunately, i know there are millions of them :(.

artiecat: what does corporate social responsibility mean to you? just so you know, i know you say you are a finance major. well so am I and i go to NYU Stern, so you are not going to be dealing with an idiot.
  21. Is it good just because you say so?
  22. Can you read? I said "food is vital". Do you disagree?

  23. First of all, food is a commodity. Health care should not be construed as a commodity.

I remember reading something as an undergrad about the cracks associated with free market health care. People with rare diseases, Lou Gehrig's disease, etc.., had a hard time getting their medicine because it was so expensive and many drug makers did not even bother researching and developing new drugs for these rare diseases. The federal government had to step in and force (i believe they also subsidized) drug companies to produce these medicines. The drug companies did not have a bristling market for these drugs and their profit margin was negligible. Thus they were not producing or researching these drugs.

I know it's a small percentage, these rare diseases, but if the government did not take action, these people would have fallen through the cracks of the free market.
  24. All rational, intellectual people support privatized healthcare for the same reasons they support a return to privatized fire departments.
  25. This is not a sarcastic question.....

Why don't people who want gov't healthcare, union type job security, and CEO's that make just a little more than the workerbees move to Canada or someplace like that???? I am totally serious.

America is about free markets and capitalism (dare I say small gov't of the people), love it or GTFO.

There is nothing wrong with wanting all that warm and fuzzy stuff, so move somewhere where they 'give' it to you and be happy.
  26. Let's see.

    1) I think it depends on how you view life. I think most people believe that you have the RIGHT to be alive, and the RIGHT to stay alive as long as possible. So, they view healthcare on a different plane than luxury items. So, tacos aren't neccessary for life. Burgers aren't neccessary for life. Doctors have a skill to keep you alive. From this, I think that doctors have obligations (along with drug companies) to help people and not gain maximum profit at the expense of the market. I think everyone knows this going in, so it isn't a shock. If your out just for millions, own a McDonalds or something else. If you want to change the world, work in medicine.

    2) I believe unions are neccessary. Now, don't get me wrong, Unions are evil creatures, but so are businesses. Businesses will destroy families and the middle class just to make a few cents more in profit. They never look for the better of everything, only themselves. Unions do the same thing. At their best, they both keep each other in line. However, often this does not happen.

But, look at what big auto companies like Ford did to their White Collar staffs in the 90's. While making a Fortune, they would cut these people left and right. This didn't happen in the plants, because of the unions. Under these spots, you could argue, a union would have been a good thing.

    3) I don' think anyone blames big companies for how they got big. The problem is, now that they are huge, they now don't need to be innovative, they can just crush competition. Their is a belief that if you have a good idea, you will make money and move on. Taking some MBA classes, this isn't true. Note, RC Cola "invented" Diet pop. Yet, they made nothing before Coke and Pepsi rushed in to crush the market. So, even if RC comes up with innovative ideas, if they work, they will still never make any money on it. This is why people are questionable about big companies.
  27. Why don't you move to Iraq? I hear they have the freest markets on Earth.
  28. It boggles my mind why conservatives defend the Private Insurance industry so vehemently.

It is among the most wasteful, bureaucratized systems imaginable.

A single payer (yes that means socialized) would in fact be FAR more streamlined, efficient, cheaper, equitable, and effective than the current system.
  29. BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores donated a record $196 million to charity last year through the Wal-Mart Foundation. The contributions were made within four categories -- community education and scholarships; family health and welfare needs; economic and workforce development programs; and environmental issues -- with all money going to causes designated at store level to charitable organizations within their respective communities.

This would probably be a good start IHateKK. You see, if you would stop believing the propaganda on websites funded by the the UFCW and did a little research you could actually get the other side of the story.

  30. can you not be such an ass? your logic is obviously horrible. everything isnt so black and white as republicans try to make it out to be for the less educated political base.

shelter is vital. so the government should give everyone free housing by your sarcastic comment right? you make the assumption that by the government trying to socialize healthcare that they will now socialize everything else. how does this thought process even occur? the main difference is that the cost of food is signficantly less than the cost of healthcare. even with minimum wage (which i think we should raise to help the economy, puts more money in more peoples' hands just by taking away money from the few greedy execs), less fortunate people can afford food to live on. with minimum wage, they cannot afford healthcare. that is the difference artie. you only care about one social class (the elite) and the profits of the majority shareholders. nothing else.
