Libs: against jingoistic flag-waving and patriotic bumper stickers; for crowing about getting obl. Hmm

I have my flag on my pack... I DO NOT WANT TO BE MISTAKEN FOR A AMERICAN, and that is why I put my flag on my pack.

Take it in context tho, I find national pride or nationalism to be pretty gross. As in, pride over where you were born and where you are a citizen; I just don't see it as rational and it often lends to pretty gross behavior. There are moments where I am proud of the actions of my country and moments where I am shamed. Just as their are moments where I am proud of my own actions and moments where I am shamed. However, I am no more proud of the circumstances of my citizenship than I am the circumstances of my birth. I'm happy to live in the USA, but I wouldn't say I'm proud of it. Also, I'm happy being a white male, but again I wouldn't say I'm proud of it. Again I'm not saying I'm shamed by these circumstance either, I just see them as random and really nothing to be proud of.

I still think it's silly to dislike/hate or have disdain for a person you've never met based on generalizations and stereotypes, or a bad experience here or there. I haven't traveled extensively, but I've been to a few other countries, and always treated others with respect and was treated with respect in return. People should be judged based on how they behave individually. I just really don't understand this mentality of hating or disliking people based on their nationality at all.
Most Americans get just as disgusted by many of government's policies as people in other countries do. Even if you vote, you still have no control over what happens once someone is elected. Our politicians no longer serve us, they serve themselves and special interest groups. It's a sad, sad thing. It makes me very upset that some people in some country across the ocean would want to see me and my family dead for things I have little to no control over :( -
so does love... and other people's pride helps to defend your freedom every day, but I'm sure you'd rather focus on when their pride embarasses you.

I am not embarrassed by anyone's pride. For any service that protect my freedom, without infringing on that of others, I am very grateful.

From my experience it is the people from Western Europe (minus Spain I had nothing but good experiences living there) that think their country is the greatest in the world who have the disdain for Americans. France and UK specifically I've been treated bad entirely b/c I was from the US. When I have been in Eastern Europe (Berlin and Poland), everyone I met was interested in America, treated me better than I could have asked for, and had no hatred/resentment whatsoever.

The world public in general is very uneducated about the rest of the world. The US public is a joke in general when it comes to world affairs. The rest of the world public is just as much of a joke tho.

have you been to 25 other countries and talked to their locals? Do you really think that the average person in europe knows fuck all what goes on outside of the countries directly around them? I am not counting the USA because everyone knows shit about the USA as we are on tv more overseas than the Kardashians.
We are one of the most educated countries in the world as the link says above. Like i said before, go travel to european countries and ask them what goes on the Africa or South America or Asia or distant european countres or central america or canada. Most of them wont know much at all.... -

I always mess up heads of state vs heads of government as they are always tricky, I looked up the definitions and I should have put government not state. (ie the Queen is our head of state)
Reason: at pluv -
eff the dyz/feta radio slot, I'd pay to listen to pluv/lord supremo talk politics every day. mike and mike ain't got shit

The one and only test is as follows:
% of Govs/Premiers of nearby States/Provinces Americans know
% of Govs/Premiers of nearby States/Provinces Canuckistanis know
% of Heads of States of nearby Nations Euros know
I'm sure Euros would still slaughter, but at least it's like against like. -
People in a closely grouped continent with shared histories going back thosands of years know more about each other than people who live on the other side of the planet in a large country with just a few neighbors? Shocking.
As soon as euros start parading their knowledge of minn-stpaul water district rights and that new ordinance in new haven i'll start worrying about americans' dearth of knowledge of other countries -
Im still confused.
can you say that again? -
ima punk
everytime
gimme little room'n I'll spit in yo' eye

It is my understanding that most foreign countries with free press report American news first on newscasts.
This shows that Americans are not the only people who think what happens in America is more important than what happens anywhere else. It's pretty widely accepted. I can understand why people who live elsewhere would get sick of that. -
A little embarrassing when put on the spot.

Mexico - I wasn't aware that somebody is in charge.
England - Used to be Tony Blair. The queen is not actually in charge.
Germany - Pretty sure it's a broad. Conservative (by European standards).
France - Used to be Sarkozy, new guy is a bit of a commie.
Brazil - no clue
Russia - Putin
India - Not Ghandi anymore (it was never Original Ghandi, but one of his sons or something)
China - Not Deng Xiaoping or Chairman Mao anymore.
Japan - no clue
Iraq - Not Saddam anymore
Afghanistan - Not the Taliban anymore -
Honestly, Canadians do mark themselves with their flag when travelling to other countries so they are not mistaken for an American. That is very much true.
I prefer to watch American news than Canadian due to content (American always has more graphic/detailed content). With that being said, Canadian news does cover stories worldwide where as American news seems to be based on America only (or atleast 95% of it).
The rest of the world feels like it is being "force fed" or "Americanized.
The rest of the world feels like America will intervene/interfere if they so choose so.
The above opinions (like it or not) is just the way I (non-American) see it. Maybe less Americans should be posting here and maybe reading to see what all the gripe is about. This should not be about anyone other than America as the title states. Kind of like festivus with other countries holding the pole and airing their grievances about the USA. -
I have no issue with Canadians who wear a leaf patch when travelling abroad. Wear what you like. Americans who fake like they're Canadian are faggots though.

This is a valid response
