2. US Foreign Policy. Most of the people don't hate us at all. I live in a Muslim country that has serious racism issues as 40% of the population is non-Muslim and they receive approximately zero percent of government aid and benefits, but for the most part they're just like the rest of us. They want fast food, smartphones, and iPads and want to listen to shitty pop music and drink carbonated sugar water. They hate our government's foreign intervention and global military presence, and they hate the fact that everyone on FB on 9/11 wanted to commemorate the 3,000 lives lost as a result of 9/11 rather than the 300,000 lives lost in our response. I was actually in Malaysia when we invaded Iraq in the first place, and everyone back home was like "Get out of there now, you'll die." The people in Penang were incredibly friendly and talked to me for hours about foreign policy vs opinions of actual people...
3. One of the things that does piss a lot of the world off about us is our perceived decadence, wastefulness, and complete lack of taste. Or perhaps that we aren't as sexist as they are.
Nationalism is one of the most destructive forces in the world, and all the flag-waving "I'm better than you because of where I came out of a vagina" shit doesn't help. I'm not proud to be an American. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to be American, and consider myself lucky that I exited stage vag in the US because I have opportunities to live life in ways that I never would have if I had been born in most of the rest of the world. For me, pride is something you have as a result of your actions and choices, and vaginal disembarkation location has absolutely nothing to do with you. I also hate borders and the implications that people are different on different sides of borders, and all the labeling and classification and telling our children why people from here are different from people from here are superior to people from here just makes the world a shittier place.
We should all just fuck everyone until we all look the same, leave nationalism and religion out of it, and save the world. -

Protestors breached the embassy in Yemen today. No one killed but this is not looking good. Does anyone know if this sort of thing has happened before. Obviously you had the Iran hostage crisis but were they storming embassies in other Muslim countries. All this feels like something I havent seen in my adult lifetime but maybe I just wasn't paying attention

My father used to tell me that during his university days there was a lot of hate for america. It had to do primarily with Imperialism. America coming in and removing leaders like it was happening during those days didn't cope with people....especially people growing up in countries that 150 years before were liberated from their own imperialistic power.
The hate has diminished somehow in Colombia, but its strong in Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador....especially places were their own leaders talk about american imperialism being bad.
That being said, I'm talking about the middle class and below. The elite loves America. -

I am Canadian but go to school in Michigan... we are pretty similar culturally imo. But like others said its more of a regional thing. Parts of Canada I couldn't compare to MI, but my part of Canada I couldn't compare to other parts of the US.
It really is ignorant to say the haters are jealous of America... I doubt they are. Think about it...
Idk, the one thing I am jealous of Americans for is their patriotism, and Canadians are pretty patriotic imo. -
