Thats what Im saying, central banks in both countries using monetary policy to devalue their currency for economic purposes, obv not free floating. Protectionism maybe not be the correct word.

also, a currency that is free floating is for the most part free from manipulation. if you are saying that low interest rates by the fed = manipulation then w/e but i don't think that way
Me being an Austrian, I believe the US plan to keep it low to help exports vs imports for jobs is stupid. Because on the other side(China) if we make our exports "cheaper" that makes their imports more "expensive" so they will do poorer economically thus wont have money to buy our exports to their country. If you can understand that.
This is probably better at saying what I mean:
"If we weaken the greenback in order to make foreign imports less attractive to US consumers, foreigners will lack the dollars to buy what we make. They forget that were the largest exporting country in the world, and if were debasing the currency, foreigners can buy less of what we produce."
"What these guys also miss is the longer-term impact of a weak currency, adding, Inflation IS a devalued currency." -
Five pages of answers and the facts still have yet to be articulated.
Currently, there is less refining going on in the US than there has been in years. That reduces supplies, increasing costs. Additionally, the price per barrel is now at about $82. that's the other factor.
It's simple, the oil companies can manipulate these things all they want. -
because people will pay it.
although I do find it odd that when gas prices went up under g-dub it was front page news for months, and now...
