That's outrageous! Try Blue Cross/Blue Shield. They have a Blue Advantage plan. You should be able to get insured for less than $200 per month if you don't have any major health issues and don't smoke.
-
I look it up for delaware and its like 140 a month but for New York its literally like $1,100 from Blue cross.
-
you should prob periodically injure urself and go to the hospital to get some value for how much ur paying. yeah stick it to the man
-
^^ Ya if you're paying that much check the percs out. I use to get massages through my health insurance at no cost. I don't like men touching me, but when it's free and relaxing I have no shame.
-
That's odd! I can't imagine why it would be almost tens times more per month in New York??
-
because of all those hawks and odst you kill off without feeling for life.

Call it Regional inflation.
(Read, they are ripping you the F*** off.)
Car insurance where I live is 8x the amount it would be if I lived in rural PA. For some reason, it seems, all insurance is utterly inflated in PA, NY, Boston, Wash (DC), and I'll assume LA, etc. -
become a full time professor and take what they give you ldo. i just get dental and vision from them now.
my mommy still covers me and just switched us to empire, maybe just cheack that out.
so sick -
You don't get health insurance through your employer?
-
You want to know why its so expensive? Because every tool in this country who has a sniffle wants to go see a doctor. Instead of sucking it up for a day and staying home. And every drug company wants a cut. My father went from age 18 to about age 50 without ever going to see a doctor. And he had the best health care coverage possible.. (municipal employee) People nowaday arent like that. They go to Doctors they take their kids to doctors for everything..
But wow 1000 a month? Good Lord.. I pay 12 bucks a week for medical/dental at Foxwoods.. -
Must be a pretty profitable business. They suddenly found $2 trillion dollars in cost savings that they can pass on.
<SPAN id=udtD>updated <SPAN class=time>5:07 p.m. ET,</SPAN> <SPAN class=date>Sun., May 10, 2009</SPAN></SPAN> <SCRIPT language=javascript> function UpdateTimeStamp(pdt) { var n = document.getElementById("udtD"); if(pdt != '' && n && window.DateTime) { var dt = new DateTime(); pdt = dt.T2D(pdt); if(dt.GetTZ(pdt)) {n.innerHTML = dt.D2S(pdt,((''.toLowerCase()=='false')?false:true ));} } } UpdateTimeStamp('633775864317470000');</SCRIPT>
WASHINGTON - Top representatives of the health care industry plan to offer $2 trillion in cost reductions over 10 years in a bid to help pass President Barack Obama's health overhaul, a source familiar with the negotiations said Sunday.
Industry officials representing health insurers, hospitals, doctors, drug makers and a major labor union plan to be at White House on Monday to present the offer.
In a rare move before the administration has unveiled all the details of its proposal, the industry groups are trying to strike a deal now with Obama officials to help get coverage for all Americans in the hopes they can stave off legislation that would restrict their profitability in future years.

yea me either, and Im still covered thru my parents from school....haven't been since i was in 9th grade for a sports physical

MUPP can probably delineate this more clearly and accurately, but the reason health care is so expensive is because of Health Insurance. So, Health Insurance is the reason why Health Insurance is so expensive. It's pretty sick, actually.

supply and demand, obv.
ps. Here's a link to a much less flippant response. http://www.amazon.com/Crisis-Abundan.../dp/1930865899. -
Wein, as someone who has recently shopped for health insurance, I can answer your question fully and completely.
Because you live in New York, there are regulations that are really screwing you. Specifically, health insurance companies are required to charge each individual person the same regardless of their health status or age. In most other states, health insurance companies charge people with previous conditions a higher premium, and because that is not legal in New York, the burden is evenly spread, which really hurts young healthy people without previous conditions like diabetes, previous heart conditions, cancer etc. You pay the same as a 60 year old with all of the above.
In any event, unless you have some health issues that I am unaware of, don't get a full HMO plan. Get one that covers the big stuff only, and pay for your office visits out-of-pocket.
My advice to you is to contact Mutual of Omaha who broker Health Insurance from GHI. They won't cover your doctor's visits, but they will cover all of the disastrous stuff that could really hurt your wallet. It might cost $300-400, and $500 at most. Even if you go to the doctor 3x/month, you won't pay $1000./mo.
The phone number is 1-800-775-6000.
Hope that helps! -
Real good info Jennifear. Oh lord, please don't get me started in another health insurance thread.
I pray and pray and wish for health insurance. Nobody will touch me at a price I could afford. So my advice is don't get sick like I did. Seriously though, gl and be sure to look at afflack for some supplemental policies that can really save your life by having some extra cash come in when tragedy strikes.
