  1. arod has signed the biggest contract ever at $275 million which is still a long way off but do u see a day maybe in the next 50 years when an athlete will sign a $1bilion contract? salaries just keep going up every year and i wonder if it will ever even out or if it will just keep on growing to insane numbers
  2. well what is it? ever, or 50 years?

I would say yes to both

  3. If the dollar continues to decrease at this rate, then yeah, probably.
  4. both i guess, do u see it happening relativly soon or maybe somewhere way down the line

  5. Very few would have the ability and notoriety around the world to pull this off, if anyone could then Tiger would be a candidate.
  6. the dollar is going back up

  8. don't see this happening within the next 10-15 years... around 20-25 from now I think it is much more likely... I think 50 years from now it could be closer a standard contract, but I am no expert in inflation or anything

  9. Only if unicycle racing gets the respect and notoriety it deserves.
  10. Tiger will be the first to cross the $1 billion mark... but that's a combination of tourney wins and endorsements

  11. I doubt this will happen in the near future. Most of these franchises aren't even worth $1B so it wouldn't make sense to give a player a contract worth more than the franchise itself.
  12. horse-drawn or dog-drawn?
  13. A relatively small portion of Tiger Woods' Fortune is actual golf winnings. Golf is really just a side project for the Woods' empire now.

Eventually someone will get $1 billion - it is a lonnnnng way off though. Probably not in our lifetimes. But inflation will eventually get it there.
  14. I think it will likely happen at some point. Hard to see sports getting any smaller, so if contracts keep rising, it should. Still, I don't think it was that long ago that players were making 100k and $1 million, so it's gone up insanely since then. I doubt it can keep rising at this rate.

It would also have to be a perfect combination. Have to be a very rich/hungry owner (like a Mark Cuban type) in a booming league that needs a superstar. Then, you'll need a hyped superstar that lives to the hype in his first 5 years, is very young, and wants to sign a 20 year plus deal. This deal would also have to include heavy endorsements as part of it.

I think either Tiger Woods or Lebron James could have been the first, if they came 20-40 years later ( and Woods played a contract sport). But, it'll be that sort of player.

Of course, if they get a salary cap in baseball, it likely may not be in the next 50 years.
  15. does endorsement deal count?

For example lets say Tiger Woods is given X% more of nike stock and cash to promote Nike Golf for his lifetime and beyond valued at over $1 billion. Thats a hell of an endorsement deal and is more likely to happen than a team paying a player a contract worth 1 billion.

  17. I'm gonna say that if it does happen, it will probably be a soccer player and/or an indycar driver. Seriously, look at the money in these sports.

I think baseball is a bit far off mainly because it would have to be a 15+yr contract but who knows.
  18. I don't think it'll happen.
