I was using my upstairs neighbors' unsecured wireless signal for a long time to save $30/mo on internet. It was becoming too unreliable and the signal too weak for my liking, so I finally put in a router of my own which has been working out great the first three days. Today I wake up to it going like 1/8th speed and downloading things at 13kb/s. Even these forums load slowly.
Any standard explanations for a change like this? -
The neighbor is paying you back for leeching his bandwidth and is downloading thousands of pornos simultaneously.
If somebody isnt leeching off your connection and the computer you have hardwired to your router is running slow then its probably just a problem with your ISP. -
Your neighbor is collecting from you.

Yeah that's the point. In the setup of the router I selected all the security options available with encryption and shit. You need a random alpha-numerical code to initiate the wireless on your computer. I'm sure this can be hacked, but it's definitely not by the people above because they're nice, have their own wireless and clearly don't even have the tech savvy to secure their own signal.
Are encrypted signals easy to hack? Can I solve this by reinstalling the router settings or something? -
You can check and see if anyone is connected to your router wirelessly that shouldnt be there in the routers config page.
