  1. You witness a car accident. It appears as though everyone is OK... people exit their vehicles and get on their phones survey damage etc. Assume that you saw exactly what occured... someone ran a red or didn't stop at a stop sign or whatever the case. Do you stay to give your statement to the police?
  2. prob not. unless i see the person that was at fault screaming at the other person, then i get involved and put that shmuck in his/her place.
  3. no
  4. Unless you are speeding home because your kid took a header off a kitchen chair, you should stop and give a statement.

(funny this happened to me on Sunday and I drove right around the accident.)
  5. Talk to police? Hell no. Keep on driving.
  6. If I was asked by the one who did not run the red light, I would say, but not otherwise.

I was in an accident once, where the other car came into my lane and almost crashed head on (I was able to turn away so we barely crashed). A woman came up to me and gave me her phone number and told me to call her, if the woman that crashed into me didn't accept full responsibility, and she would be a witness. It was a nice thing to do imo.
  7. If others(witnesses) have already stopped--as in the accident didn't occur directly in front of you, I would keep going. However, if I'm the only one around(witness), besides the people involved in the accident, I'd stay.
  8. if nobody is injured than its a waste of time to stop
  9. not a chance i stick around

    Shocked at that answer, lol.

Yes, I'd stick around. An accident investigation will list "contributing factors" in an accident, not necessarily who was at fault. After that insurance companies get involved and what should be an easy-to-determine accident (of fault) can become a nasty mess, having a witness can shortcut the BS and end that quickly.
  11. yes, your observations could really help someone out that is possibly getting scammed by the other guy.

there are a lot of scammers out there that purposely position themselves to get into fender benders for insurance fraud... your statement will prevent that possibly
  12. Stop and give the person not at fault your number.

  14. This has happened to me more than twice. I never stuck around; just drive on by.
  15. I got shit to do

exactly what I did when there was no injuries, just a damaged bumper
  23. all amateurs. grab the guy at fault, give him your number and say you saw the whole thing but cash makes your memory fuzzy. walk off and wait for the call.
  24. If its in a city like NYC it would dumb as shit to stop due to their no fault law, every person involved is equally responsible. Not sure if this is the case any where else but even if it isnt I dont see a reason to stop unless its really bad.
  25. there is a creek-like waterway (in the city) that we walk over on the way to the bar.... i always look for a dead body.... that's the only way i would want to give a statement to the police...

I think that law is common in a lot of states. Basically if you stop and some guy is laying there about to die and your watching but dont help there may be 10 more people not stop thinking you are helping who would have stoped. If they guy is laying there and you dont stop you cant get in trouble

  28. there's enough cars in zimbabwe for there to be an accident w/ another car?
  29. yes, i always stay and give a statement to the police. mainly b/c i know how difficult insurance companies can be.

if i am in an accident, the first thing i do is grab a witness and ask them to tell the police what happened.
  30. A drunk Indian came speeding around the bend and almost hit me head on...he started driving through my car, and when he hit my back wheel, my car spun around twice. It was obv totalled. People were everywhere, and they just took off. ONE girl came back to see if I was ok, she was behind me and saw the whole thing. She said she would be my witness, obv, I never saw her again.

    Lesson # 1 - People are shit.

    Lesson # 2 - Do unto others...
