  1. And I didn't even lie. All I said was that I'm a high school math teacher, and he excused me.

    :)
  2. I've been called for jury duty twice, and couldn't do it either time.

I didn't even try ditching it, either. Everyone says it blows, but it's something I'd like to say I've done before.
  3. you shouldve just said i suck at life

    oh wait...
  4. hey real slim your P5's 1 year anniversary is tommorow i noticed. Who are you?
  5. Did you also make them aware that you liked little boys?
  6. former lurker, now just a noob
  7. haha, i had a math teacher try to avoid and he said he was a math teacher...and they said we dont care
  8. I thought sean614 was the one who liked little boys?
  9. they both like little boys
  10. I've been called in twice and not picked. I really want to do it, too.
  11. Was foreman of a jury that convicted a guy of murder. Was a great experience.

That said, I don't think I would ever be chosen again. However, that doesn't stop the state from sending me annual selection notices...

  12. Getting out of it is a piece of cake for me. Severe hearing loss in both ears would prevent me from being selected... thank god!!
  13. ... and now, let's talk to our 4th prospective juror, David Huber...

Counsel: Mr. Huber, do you know the defendant?

dhubermex: Yessir, I do. He's guilty!

Judge: Mr. Huber, you are excused from jury duty. Thank you for your time.

  14. all you have to do is show up, say youre gay, and you believe in the death penalty and they'll let you off
  15. even elvis has jury duty...

  16. I have always wanted to do jury duty, just have not ever been contacted.
  17. When selecting, or deselecting, a jury, I like to find out who really wants to be there and who really does not want to be there.

If someone has an abnormal desire to serve, it is often because they want to advance their own agenda or if someone has an overwhelming desire to be excused, I probably do not want them on the jury as they will not pay attention and will be a negative influence on the process, so kudos to you Prfsr. For the good of the jury system, I am happy that everyone does not share your view of jury service.
  18. I actually wouldn't mind doing it. I kinda looked forward to it, but my service is from now until sep 7. I would rather give back to my community by teaching rather than serving on a jury.

  19. i had jury duty and dint sho up...I just called later and said I was sleeping.. no big deal..lol
  20. A seven week trial? I doubt they will have many working people. That makes it a lot harderto find jurors. I understand now. It is one thing just not wanting to do it, and another, if it is really going to cause a problem.
  21. congrats
  22. "It's jury duty-do it, don't do it, but if you don't do it you don't get to complain about the OJ verdict"

  23. Back in the late 80’s I was working a civil service job at a water company when I was called for jury duty. I served on a civil case that lasted just over 3 months.

I got my paycheck every week after turning over the measly check the courts gave us.

In this case it was MUCH easier than going to work-
I reported at 9 or 10am instead of 7:30am- I got an hour & sometimes 2 for lunch as opposed to 30 min- Got out no later than 3pm- They gave us a lot of days off & sent us home a lot of times right after we showed up. Too bad that case didn’t last a year.

Then there were a few times I was called & didn’t get selected to sit on a jury, but had to sit there all week going out of my mind with boredom- THAT SUCKED!
  24. Do they compensate you for lost salary?
  25. It's not a 7 week trial. We are on call for seven weeks. The judge randomly assigns us to a panel. Every night we call and see if our panel is needed.
