  1. So I've recently started looking for jobs. It's fucking miserable. Every job listed is either a manager at a fast food place, some bs retail job, or insurance sales, which honestly i think i'd rather take one in the head. Are there any decent paying jobs that allow you to work from home? Or really just any job ideas at all? I have a BS in Bus. Mgt. from Clemson. Throw me a bone, OT.

  2. I work for an insurance company (office job) that allows me to work from home a few days each week - but it is not a "work from home" job.

I would look into some type of financial/insurance agent position. You do some work from home but you also have to travel to various locations for meetings with customers.

  3. prolly wont get clemson rich working from home
  4. My friend's mom is a travel agent, and she works from home almost exclusively. She may have to go to the main office like once a week or something.
  5. You pretty much have to know someone to get a decent job nowadays. I buy and sell some stuff on ebay just for some play money. If you want a decent job where you can work from home, try becoming a Real Estate agent

yeah I actually have an interview with Northwestern Mutual tomorrow. The lady called me and completely sugar-coated it as a Financial Advisor position, but I dug a little deeper online and found out it's pretty much gonna be insurance sales. I've just always had a really bad connotation of that business, but maybe it's not so bad. Is that what you do?

No - I'm a consultant, analyzing disability claim trends for large companies.

  9. +1 on real estate agent. That's what I would do if I didn't care about ever seeing another college football game.
  10. It takes a certain type of person to sell insurance. You're def in the minority if you can do it. The turn over is insane. I cold called as a mortgage broker for a year and a half and it completely drains you

Not necessarily. I just got a job in Michigan and I didn't have an in with the company. Granted, I did just finish my MBA program so it might be tougher with just a BS but I also didn't have much experience on my resume. I worked at a bank for a year and managed a tutoring center for two years before they shut down and I decided to go back to school so not much work experience. I wouldn't recommend the job sites like careerbuilder or monster personally. I used doostang.com, vault.com and indeed.com and I felt that the job selection was much better. Granted some of them were pay sites for full access but you can still see what jobs are offered and from what companies. Just make sure that your resume and cover letters are good. I paid a guy to help me with mine and it really helped my job search tremendously.

  13. I am about to get an offer for a job that is work from home but the pay is really low. I have been our of college for almost 15 years and this would actually be lower than my first job out of college, but I am trying to switch fields. This is a IT testing position that has potential to move into management within a year or two. That is something you need to look at is the possibilities to move up in a company. You might not start out doing what you want, but you need to get into a company then worry about moving around if there are opportunities.

Lucky for me my manager from 2 years ago actually called and asked me to interview for this spot so I didn't have to look fight for a job right now.
  14. Working from home is the nuts. I was laid off from a limousine dispatching job. Was off for a couple months and had no luck in the job market, so I created my own company. I run an answering service out of my home, exclusively for limousine companies. The money is not that great yet, but the working conditions are fabulous.
  15. I get to work from home in my job, on occasion. But those days, I hardly get anything done. I just move the mouse whenever the screensaver comes on, to keep an eye on emails...while I'm playing poker or PS3.

  16. I was gonna make a post on this. Is there anything out their for someone with a disability? The phone jobs are not doable. I would be able to get out once or twice a week if needed. Things have happened in my life and I need a change for the better. Any ideas would be great. PM if needed

Northwestern Mutual's business model is hiring anyone that can pass the insurance/securities tests and then forcing them to call anyone/everyone they know to come in for meetings. When they come in for meetings they try and sell them insurance and then force 10 referrals out of them. Then you are to bug the shit out of the 10 referrals from each family member/friend you bugged initially to try and get them to come in and sit down. Then you force the referrals to give you 10 referrals of their own and rinse and repeat.

If you are comfortable with that you can make some decent money, but nothing is instant and you definitely feel uncomfortable at times as your are dependent on friends/family initially.

I used to get calls weekly from them because a few friends went to meetings and referred me to them. I was like dude I have my securities and insurance licenses, if I wanted to get more insurance I would buy from myself and get the commission for myself. They didn't have an objection handler for that one but they still called back the next month when they forgot.
  18. northwestern mutual blows the cock. i interened there one summer in madison and it was AWFUL. basically just practiced pitching insurance and shit too my friends and then some profs and other grown ups i had connects with i was able to get them to switch their life insurance from whole life too term because whole life is fucking retarded and i basically laid out too them why their insurance agent just ass raped them. but the money sucked ass and i should have just grinded $10 sngs instead lol... but i guess you cant do that anymore

my suggestion is try and get your foot in the door at some bigger financial advising institution like a merril lynch, where people will actually seek you out for advice and you wont have to sit there and cold call your life away
  19. working from home is the greatest. I would suggest looking at making a small investment and starting your own business.

  20. I make good money, full benefits and work from home. I love my fucking job.

sfthis. this is just not at all what i want to be doing. feeling like a pawn in a massive company just messes with my head, id really rather not be a sheeple. i'm considering cancelling the interview bc i doubt id even accept an offer, but the interview experience could be good.

those of you who do work from home, what do you do? its really not THAT important to me, its just i havent had a job in years and something similar to the poker lifestyle would be ideal (yeah, right)....this shit is so frustrating, every job listing i see is a complete turn off, i may just move to tahoe and live off the land.

  22. sell drugs
  23. Payment Processing is a decent at home job. I have a few buddies crushing 150k - 200k doing this, its a grind but if you can hack it good on you. It creates a decent revenue stream that compounds until your clients start to leave you.

Sorry, I'm not going to go into detail on here but I'm on a Business Development team and manage a segment of partners we have. I worked my ass of for the last 10+ years at jobs I fucking hated to get what I consider my dream job outside of a professional surfer or basketball player. I just started a few months ago and I get to travel around the country to meet with the partners but unlike my old jobs I don't have to try and sell them anything. I just take them out to steak dinners and ask them to do some stuff and have the metrics to back up why it's a good idea.

They both work for Chase Paymentech. If you can get a position directly with the bank side as an independent operator it's great, when you work for a company that just distributes processing off of another bank than its a waste of time.
