  1. So there are basically two people in our export department at work, i also currently handle a bunch of shit for our imports.

The other guy who does exports (mainly air, i do mainly the ocean) is going to be taking another job and basically my already insane busy days are going to be at least doubled.

Am I in the wrong to ask for a raise due to this, I mean they will be replacing him but who knows how long. Or am I expected to do double work for what is already an insultingly low amount?

I mean I know the answer, but am I crazy for thinking this is a good time to bring up compensation?
  2. Seems like the best time to ask

you can ask, but they will probably say no unless you threaten to quit. And you better be prepared to get another job if you are going to do. But i say go for it if they are already underpaying you.
  4. yea, def already considered that I need a solid backup in place so I can state my case.

Actually got a call from two diff headhunters from the same place about the same job this morning so planning on looking into that and will hopefully have that in my hand

sucks cause i consider the guy a friend and am happy he is getting out, but it is seriously going to make a job I hate with the passion of a thousand suns infinitely worse

  5. Don't sell yourself short. If you think your work output warrants a raise, prepare yourself (if/when questions are posed to you as to why you think...(although, I say beat um to the punch, and make it part of your request for a raise.

    good luck $
  6. lol, im not old tho - 6 months of 20s left

  7. If you can take on all the work for Importing and Exporting ask for a serious raise and let them know they can save money by not hiring someone else or some really young schmuck minimum wage to help you with the menial shit.

^^^^^^ Fine example of selling YOURSELF short.

Age is not important. What you bring to the table....is.

  9. most companies should be having annual performance reviews starting right around this time. if your company does so, use the opportunity on your self assessment to demonstrate your worth and ask for a raise.
  10. I dont think I will have a review for about 10 months, and my last one I basically got laughed at when I asked about the raise I was promised already

unreal how much the place pisses me off, wish I could just mail it in but I still give everything I got because I pride myself on being the best and would never screw our customers.

Can pretty much garantee they lose multi million dollar (gross, more like 200k net profit annual) account if I leave + others, but can you really mention this without looking like an asshole?

  11. Just ask yourself, what would you do if your son was at home, cryin' all alone on the bedroom floor cuz he's hungry, and the only way to feed him is to negotiate with a man for a little bit of money?
  12. I would tell the singer to go to rehab because he's a raging alcoholic who will die if he doesn't sober up.

Too lazy to look up the intervention video.
  13. isnt it a she, and i assume drug addict whoring it up?

  14. Do an internet search on similar jobs being done in your area with your experience / qualifications to see where you fit in the industry average / pay scale. Assuming you are underpaid against the industry average, present this to your boss when you discuss all of your accomplishments with the company and make sure they know you don't want to leave but you are in fact prepared to leave if your efforts are not going to be rewarded. Dust off your resume and start floating it out there. Good luck.

Nah City High was 2 guys and a girl. The girl was originally dating one guy and broke up with him for the other guy in the group. The guy who got dumped turned into a raging alcoholic. He was on intervention, he drank like a liter of vodka a day or something gross like that.
  16. if you get fired for asking, tell them to hit me up!

  17. wait, wat?

is this not a song he is referring to?

and saxman i think that is excellent advice but not sure how to check salary, google seems worthless and either way to high or low. perhaps just not a common enough job for good data

edit: google did answer my other question, but yea its a chick who says that

    [1st verse:]

Boys and girls wanna hear a true story?
    Saturday
night was at this real wild party
They had the liquor overflowin' the cup,
    about
5 or 6 strippers tryin to work for a buck
    and I-took one girl
    outside wit me, her name
was Loni, she went to Junior High wit me,
    I
said, Why you up in there dancin for cash?,
I guess a whole lots changed
    since I seen you last
    She said..

    [Chorus:]

    What would
you do?, if your son was at home
crying all alone on the bedroom floor, cuz
    he's hungry
and thee only way to feed him is ta sleep wit a man
    for a
little bit of money, and his daddy's gone
somewhere smokin' rock now, in and
    out of lock down,
I aint gotta job now, so for you this is just a good
    time
but for me this is what I call life

I can't imagine why this would come off badly...no company wants to lose huge accounts, and if it's true, why not use it as part of your ammo?

Also...sometimes you have to be an asshole for them to take you seriously/get what you want.
