I am following, and strongly cheering for Anand.
I was really pleased to see Anand even the match today. Also, as a chess fan I was hoping for 15. Qa3 to be played. While it is probably objectively worse for white, the complications are absurd and whites position plays very naturally with the open c-file and strong knight duo.
and yes, i guess that makes me a nerd too. -

Thank God Topalov won game 8. I was really trying to figure out how Anand does it. In chess anymore 40 is old. When the new Super Gms are less then age 20 anymore do to computers. ITs nice to see the man still doing well, but i figured with Topalov only behind Carlsen in the rankings, and out preforming pretty much anyone but Carlsen in the major tourneys. Plus Anand took a big chunk of time off last year.
I thought this would be a bit more lopsided for Topalov. Shows how little I know.. -

the reason why anand is able to do well vs. topalov is the same reason that kramnik does well too. both are patient players that do well in quiet and subtle positions. Definitely a misconception to think that Kramnik is not strong in tactical struggles (relatively speaking to elite super GM's). He has played some of the sharpest and most beautiful games ever.Originally Posted by emcee21

i wish there were graphics we could upload to this thread to play through the completed games. You're a computer guy emcee - any thoughts? I'd actually like to talk about the positions and have them readily available to talk about instead of having to rely on algebraic notation and reviewing the games over the board (obv i have chessbase, but you catch my drift).

I googled, things exist out there, but nothing that will work here. They don't let us embed javascript and such, just videos, etc.
