You have been sentenced to 15 to life for a murder you didn't commit. After 15 years of hard time, you come before the parole board. If you tell the board that you did the crime, that you're sorry and not a danger to society; you will be released.
If you spout your innocence, then you will continue to be incarcerated until death or until your sentence is possibly overturned.
What would you do?
FYI: This came to mind after listening to This American Life Podcast #282. It's a fascinating tale about Collin Warner's wrongful conviction and how his boy-hood friend, Carl King refused to let Collin rot in jail.

your integrity isnt worth spending the rest of your life in jail
edit: ive been playing a ton of poker the last few hours and have no idea if that sentence makes exact sense, but if it doesnt im sure u know what i mean. god i sound retarded making this but my brains tired from multitabling too mch -
Duh, Winning!!!
Life is good, My kids are great, wife is hot but I hate my job. Thinking about moving to Florida.
I don't think I could cop to murder but who knows after 15 years. -
Do not think so... I think karma will help me in the end. If it doesn't then I hope someone learns from it.
-
Depends how likely my case is to be overturned, if I know there is evidence out there that frees me then I'll stick it out and wait for my sweet settlement from the government for wrongful imprisonment (maybe just a NZ thing??) but if there's nothing proving innocence and hasn't been anything for 15 years then 'own up'
-
no i would tell them i didnt do it and spend the rest of my life in there, y not been in there 15 yrs already

i mean who the fuck wants to get out of prison?!?! -
Sure 15 years is a long time but life can be 60+ years. I can't fathom missing the next 15 years of my kids lives. Would my parents still be alive? Shit...what will the iPhone be like in 15 years?
Check out the podcast. It's a thought provoking listen. I subscribe to that podcast, it's definitely one of my favs. -
lie is the correct play here.
-
i would.. 1 life its the only logical thing to do. once your released. write a book on your real story
-
Lol of course you lie. Anyone who wouldn't = "Hella" dumb.
-
I am not sure the answer is so simple. Now you are a convicted murderer who has personally attested to the crime. That really leaves no room for doubt, you are a murderer.

Also you just spent every day over the last 15 years, telling everyone you encountered that you are an innocent man. I dont think it would be so easy to say all of that was a lie. -
I would never admit to something like murder if I didn't do it.
-
as much as i would like to think im going down with the ship, i would probably say yeah ok i did it, see ya.

In the situation that my hypo is based on, the individual was exonerated after 21 years. He refused to say that he committed the murder before the parole board.
