Does it make a difference how old they are? (under 18 obv)
Would your answer be different if they are boys or girls?
My daughter wants a face piercing which I vehemently oppose. Obviously I'm an unreasonable parent who won't let her express herself and I'm out of touch with kids today. It's the same argument that happens in every household since forever. I understand it's the fad, but I can't condone letting her put holes in her face to "express herself". OT's thoughts?
no pics gfy -
Yeah, no chance
-
Dude I would kick her ass.
-
why would you not just PM pluv?
-
depends on what the facial piercing was. tattoo no way
-
I see these kids that are freshman and sophomores with these retarded tattoos. Damn idiot parents
-
Ya the septum is pretty bad. Small stud on the side of the nose isn't so bad. Also piercings aren't permanent like a tattoo.
-
piercing: yes but they'll have to take it off before university
tattoo: yes anywhere but face, arms, or neck -
I would offer to compromise. Maybe like a Monroe, a nose stud, or a eyebrow piercing. The septum is probably the trashiest of all face piercings.
Try to get her to understand how ridiculous she is going to look in 5, 10, 20 years... Tough with a piercing that can be removed. That would be more for those ridiculous looking gauges or tattoo. -
No I wouldn't. Unlike my parents though, once they were 18 I wouldn't disown them if they decided to get a tattoo or piercing. I would just hope that they thought it out before they actually did it.

I tried to explain I can't let her do something she's going to regret later. I'd be more comfortable letting her get a tat or a piercing that isn't visible at all times. But I wouldn't be quick to OK any of those either.

Not sure why she is making a stand on this now since she only has 6 months till she's 18 and can do what she wants.
"Because it looks ridiculous" & "Because I said so" is all I got. -
mods shouldn't be exempt from the pics rule.....

That being said, at least a piercing can be taken out, tattoos are definitely out of the question.
Six months? Not really worth the fight, imo. She's going to get it soon anyway.Originally Posted by Mr. Blonde

Reason: still not ok with the tat until she is 18 -
I'm not taking her to prom if she has a bull ring.

Girls who get face piercings often get "other" piercings, ive experienced this first hand
id snap say no... obv smokecock advice should be taken extremely seriously
glglglgl -
at least its not a tongue piercing, cause you know what they say about girls with a pierced tongue.

Nope . . . and the subject has already come up. Daughter has a cartilage piercing in her right ear. We designed a nice custom piece to go with it, so I was okay with that. She asked about an "industrial piercing" for her other ear. After googling, the answer was NO.

I would recommend a serious conversation about her goals post-grad (from university/college). Lets say she wants to be a Dental Hygienist . . . take her to a few offices, and look around, you can even lie and say you are checking out new places because you are thinking of switching. The idea is to show her what sort of appearance is considered "appropriate" for her chosen field. she sounds like she is smart enough to figure out that in order to get her "start", she has to conform somewhat to the norms of that field. By the time she is established in that field , hopefully the desire will have lapsed.
My problem is my girl is an "artsy" type, so the metal inserts are practically mandatory . . . FML. -
Sure, get a face tat. But don't come crying to me later for money when you can't get a job.
-
no ink or face piercing while I breath

I'm the asshole parent who points out to my kids how stupid and disgusting people with "shit" in their faces look. We laugh at them... I know that makes me a bad person.

I also push my kids into thinking that tattoos are disgustingly stupid. I tell them that art belongs on the wall. They are only allowed to ever get henna tattoos, that way they can 'express' themselves without ruining themselves. I always get the, "your kids are going to rebel and end up covered in tattoos line." Save it, the ONLY tattoo in the last three generations is a military tattoo gotten during WWII. I've gotten beat up on here before over this issue.
Yes, I honestly think that tattoos are unattractive. I believe them to be silly. I understand this makes me 'outside' of the current norm in society. I am ok with it. My kids have been systematically brainwashed from the time they were babies. Flame away... again.
PS - I already have a 21 year old with only ear piercings, and zero tattoos.
