Just saw this on American Idol, this lady couldnt afford a hotel for a week or whatever time it was, etc. Would you live in a tent for as long as you needed to? I'm pretty sure I could/would/want to if so be it or need be. I camped for years, like it. The one and ONLY thing I would need is wifi..but i could get that at mcdonalds, starbucks, etc. The rest I could care less. It would save a shit ton of money on wasted things I don't need. The only thing I would want to know would be if i made the choice to live in a tent at a campsite or where ever where do I put my address bc I would need to get mail. not that i want bills sent to me but for normal sakes.. xxxxx, campsite 5, xxx, wisc 53703?
i think i could do it easily and actually enjoy it..although in Wisc now it would suck alot, i would def go south if i needed to -
Easily, but yeah no wifi would suck, all I would miss as well. I mean I've lived out of a backpack for 27 of the past 35 months and there is absolutely nothing I am missing.
My brother lived in a tent for a summer to save money while he worked in Boston. He had membership to a gym. Worked out and showered there -
my buddy moved to mammoth lakes with 80 dollars in his pocket no plans and a tent, 1 year later he was the chef at a really badass cooperate restaurant living in a huge house
he said it was too easy to bring girls back for the month he lived in it -
Bfactor much.

ya know Zepp, i thought of u when i first posted this but i agree i would miss nothing really. i would enjoy the cooking, stars, etc more..

I DVR'd it and am starting to watch now...
-
FUCK NO. I like central air and heat. Especially at this time of year. I also like my comfy sheets and bed. Screw living in a tent.
-
It's called a P.O. box....

duh campsite amenities! there is a campsite like 40 min from here for 7 dollars a nite..i could easily stay there for a month with hot showers. all ya gotta do is cook, make fire, drink beer, be amused by the small things without tv. I get 3g there so id have the internet. so like 230 for a month, groceries and alcohol. So eating out less, spending less at a bar. If i had to live in a tent, id at least have a blow up mattress. I mean i do have one JIC along with sleeping bags, rain suits, snow boots etc.
I would prolly save a shit ton of money. Ya know what the most expensive thing is the gdmf fire wood..although i may cut corners and not get it every day but every 2-3 and just chop my own shit -
for a certain amount of time, ya, no problem. When I was younger I used to take road trips and sleep in my vw bus for weeks at a time, not much different than being in a tent imo.
-
i mean yeah.."hey baby, you wanna go back to my blowup and bang?" thats hot right? lol..picking up chicks would suck a d but maybe picking up chicks from other campsites would work..i mean i am seriously considering this. you need a radio/mp3 player for music, books, newspapers..games (plenty, board or otherwise) ..ya know, stories from other campers would be entertaining to say the least..
anybody wanna take bets on how long i can live there? -
The person talked about in the OP was living in a couple of tents in the middle of the woods. She isn't on a campground...

I think you're severely underestimating the advantages of living in a house.

Just saw this part then saw the name of the OP and cracked up. I wouldn't sleep in a tent for one night, I need a comfy bed.

Oh I like how she was going on and on about how well her man treats her, he's letting her sleep in his fucking tent!! -
oh yeah, and this http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lano...ppearance.html
there's crazy fuckers out there -
I'm just not sure, I have camped a lot and wasn't a fan, that said the times I didn't like it all correlated with shitty weather.....I think if I lived in an area with constant nice weather it would be str8 as long as I had wi-fi. Basically if it was near a beach in southern Cal, or the Caribbean or something I think it would be doable....would be an interesting change of pace for a while

Edited By: eagleseye13 Jan 19th, 2012 at 03:19 AMok fine even fucking cheaper..hell yeah! there are certain businesses that have "family" restrooms that include showers..i wont mention them on here for certain reasons but you could "technically" shower there and not be in any trouble legally. i would rather live away from things anyway..i could get better at ax throwing, horseshoes, cooking w/o modern things. but gdamn need that wifi..well if the american govt takes websites away i might be in canada doing this..or some island in the Caribbean.Originally Posted by Dyzalot

harldy..everything costs so much nowadays..do u realize the costs would be so much less? my blowup in a tent is nicer than some beds in shitty apts or houses with less creatures crawling around. plus the peace factor is huge. as much as i watch tv i can easily do without. my last semester for my masters degree i watched no tv. i mean since we are in the spring if i lived in a tent i would go to a bar to watch the Sbowl and splurge.Originally Posted by jaykell15

Dunno why so many of you think camping has to be uncomfortable....especially if you have a car where you can bring pretty much anything you want. A good air mattress is very comfortable-especially if you bring pillows and sheets/blankets.....if I were "permanently" camping and I had a car I'd invest in a nice power inverter and setup a nice entertainment setup as well. -
Well they had a dirty mattress that looked like it was stolen from a crack house. It didn't look comfortable.

There are loads of national forests all over the country where you can generally camp for free (off forest roads). In George Washington Natl Forest (VA) you're not supposed to stay at one site over 14 days but you could keep moving sites every 2 weeks and stay for free indefinitely. National parks cost money and generally dont allow primitive campfires so I'd avoid them in general. In CO I imagine there are a lot of state parks and privately owned campsites (with actual amenities like showers/wifi/etc) where you can pay a small fee and camp but I'd look for national forests and public lands in general because they are free and much less crowded.

Everything from Idaho springs down on that list is within an hour/1.5 hours of my house. A lot of that is about 30 minutes away.Originally Posted by Shaaarrrp

I fucking love it here. I know I have posted it before but here is my last camping spot... Took about 35 minutes from my front door to this:
