After watching the UNC-FSU game last night I decided to post about this. Now I love the Heels and am infinitely glad we got Roy(the2nd time around). My main problem with the team over the last few years is this, WE CAN`T PLAY IN THE HALF COURT. We could play your local middle school and we`d run em' out the gym, up 80 and still running and fastbreaking, but who gives a fuck. We play some1 with some athletes that can run the fucking floor with us and we aint got a damn clue what to do then when it is 5 on 5. Not to mention if the athletic team they are playing knocks down shots are chances to get out and run are minimized even further effectively mandating good half court play. Come tournament time you can`t run your way to a title you have to beat good teams. I`m not suggesting we don`t get out and run thats fine, but I think we tend to rely on it to much. I just don`t see why we can`t come up with some things in the half court offense, I`d love to see us fuckin pick-n-roll 1 time, or have Tyler actually keep his head up and kick it out instead of just always bull in a china shopin' and trying to draw a foul when we dump it in to him. I`d say the lost to Kansas and the one to G`Town the year b4 in the tourney left me saying the same thing the last 2 years. I really hope we keep stepping up defensively as it gives us more fastbreak points, but if we can`t figure something out in our half court offense I think I`ll be singing a sad song again this year in march

Roy always gave his the guard the ball and gave him the "audible". Ty is the one to change the play or create something. Thats the Roy way. He doesnt do a great job creating matchup problems or drawing up plays, but he lets his best players take over. He is one the best coaches in CBB due to this. That why you see lots of players wanting to play for him. It isnt they want to play for Kansas or UNC, its because their skills will be used due to coaching. This might be one his first years he has focused on D. I know they run alot and they are offensively explosive but he has made it where they play D to create transition buckets. They(Roy) hasnt done that in the past.

Roy has harped about D from day 1 here i promise you. Albeit we seem to buy in more this year. I understand what you are saying about letting them play and Ty audibling, but I`m not suggested Roy go all Herb Sendek with the offense. Rather there is a time and place for everything, he can draw up a play here and there or take advantage of certain situations that come up. At Memphis John Calipari lets his players play as well but they seem way better in the half court.

JC and Roy never draw up plays FWIW. There assistants do.

Really? I didn`t fuckin know that. If all your trying to do is shoot down my opinion you aren`t doing very good. I`m a huge Tarheel fan always have been always will be(regardless of if its B-Ball season). I watch all there games and I`m justing pointing out something that has been on my mind. It weren`t knee-jerk from watching the game, I`ve seen it the last 3 years. It was a problem last year it was a problem the year before. You said earlier that this is the first year Roy has stressed the D. That was just dumb and ill informed, D has been what he stressed since day1. Think about it, defense and transition go hand in hand, wtf kind of coach that wants to run wouldn`t stress D. When we won in 2004 defense was a big reason why. Not to mention even though we ran we had a better half-court offense, and still had to win a tough game against a good Villanova team(a team we couldn`t just run out of the gym) in the tourney. Like I said b4 just hope we keep stepping up on defense, because it helps offset our inability to perform in the half-court. There is a reason we shot below 40% against BC and WAKE (FSU as well and were lucky 2 win) they could get back and play defense. I still think UNC will win it this year FWIW but there half court offense concerns me, and I wouldn`t be suprised if we fell short again this year.
