    We failed miserably to get this going the other day, and if this thread suffers the same fate then so be it, but I'm down to play tonight.

    I used to be quite the yahoo chess whore during the ladder days. We are talking circa 1999-2001.

    Ladder was super popular, but also full of tons of multiaccounting and cheating. They made it a subscription based service, and it promptly died completely. It may still be around as a subscription based thing for all I know.

    Wouldn't it be super easy for people to cheat at it tho, if they have one of those chessmaster computer games on their computer and set the computer to grandmaster level and then they just enter all your moves into their chessmaster game as if its their move and then for their move on yahoo chess they just do whatever the computer chessmaster program does on their computer and then unless you are Kasparov or something they beat you every time this way? No?

    Yes, that is exactly what happened, so to combat that, the main game people started playing was 1/0, which means 1 minute to complete the whole game, with 0 seconds added per move. I could get 70-80 moves in a game when the end just becomes a pawn pushing game. But within a year or so, people started creating programs to automate the play of the chessmaster programs, so they didn't have to make the moves on the yahoo client themselves. All this for no monetary gain.
