The Rangers have another potential stud SP down in their minor league system right now also. Remember the name Martin Perez. If they sign Lee to a long-term deal those two could make a nasty 1/2 combo for the Rangers down the line.
In other news, still sucks to be an A's fan :-( -
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. OP must be the same guy that confirmed LeBron James is going to Chicago Bulls? Where do you get these bogus rumors from?
-
meeehhhh. If I didn't succeed in tilting the fuck out of all you Yankee homos, at least I tried. I just hope the Braves end up in the WS with this cheating, no-class, over-paid bunch of pin-striped trannies and rip their goddam heads off.

Wow that would have been too sick tho! FU-NY

I think the fact that they were willing to trade him in this deal is pretty telling about whether they think he can catch in the majors. If he can't they'll trade in the next couple years anyway. I think best case scenario is that he can catch 2 days a week (with austin romine probably taking the other games) and DH the rest until teixeira's deal runs out. There's just no way they are going to tie up DH, especially with a 21 year old, with Arod and Jeter playing into their 40's.

Dammit

Pretty much spot on. Austin Romine is a much better defensive catching prospect and fits the mold a lot better than Montero. Montero is a biiiiiiig dude, which probably doesn't bode well for his long-term prospects behind the dish. Romine can also hit well. He can't rake the ball like Montero, but if you're wanting a future C I'm sure they're probaby looking at Romine as their long-term guy. I could see them switching Montero to a 1B if they decide to keep him.

Rangers gave up Beavan in the deal.....if they dont sign Lee this is a horrible deal.

(The rumor I had been hearing from people in Dallas was Max Ramirez, Chris Davis, and another prospect who I do not recall. It seemed like a great deal for Seattle, but I guess it didn't pan out)
Hate letting Smoak go obv, but getting Lee is so huge, they have a legit shot now.... I didn't think Rangers were even going to be able to maneuver to get Oswalt because of the bankruptcy constraints... and getting Lee on board, just WOW!!! -
Edited By: Pghfan987 Jul 10th, 2010 at 12:07 AMLOL, seriously? Look at their salaries. For the most part those guys aren't <6 year guys, so they have to pay them, which means they had to prevent them from becoming free agents.Originally Posted by cdmalgee

EDIT: In terms of their starting rotation and starting lineup. -
Seriously?

They dont give up Scheppers, Perez, Ogando, Holland, or Font. Beavans latest projection was as a 5th starter/long reliever.
This trade is almost a steal even assuming they dont sign him and get the two picks from his Class A free agency -
It's not a steal. Justin Smoak is probably the best player involved in any of these stud pitcher deals the last few years (sabathia, both times with lee, santana, halladay) and santana, halladay, lee (1 time) were for full seasons.

Their "championships" are totally without merit. ]n truth, considering what they spend, they should have triple the number of championships than what they have. But other than having deep pockets to just buy up the talent, they suck.
I hate the Yankees, but this is just absolute drivel. "Championships without merit" loollllll
Definitely a good deal for the Mariners and it'll be a good deal for the Rangers if they go deep in the postseason cuz they probably don't have much of a chance of resigning him -
Sucks somewhat seeing what lee was capable of but great maneuvering by jack z when u consider what they traded to philly for lee and now what they got for him. They had to score big with a legit middle of the lineup bat and they did it with a good young stud in smoak. When Dustin ackley and carlos truinfel are ready they could actually be working with a good offense (gasp). Any hardcore baseball nerds or ranger fans know anything about the other three guys? And mark lowe is an awesome reliever. They fucked up giving away rafael soriano when he was hurt and ill bet mark lowe will be that good when (if) he gets healthy

Wish the scumbag Yankees had given up a ton for their latest intended rent-a-player move.
Also wish fucking Yankee Stadium would burn to the ground.
