    I've been to this volcano in Congo, and it's amazing...have some of my own pics but none as good as this (my photography skills were pretty weak at the time)

    i cant understand what i'm lookin at @ the volcano picture. is that the crater or just lava flow down the side of the volcano?

    It's not bad, her face just looks melted over, smoothly tho. I personally like the Marine handing the flag to the family, teared up a little.

    That's inside the crater, there is a lake of lava that is constantly cooling, cracking, bubbling and exploding...has erupted several times...the city of Goma nearby is half covered in cooled lava from the last one...you can climb to the top and look in (about a 5hr hike)...it's one of the coolest things I've ever seen...I stared at it for hours then camped out about 50 ft from the rim.

    thx for posting. pictures are really pretty amazing. it is a pretty important job those photographers do. no explanation of events can convey what some of those photos do.

    My guess would be some sort of special forces, and by what hes wearing maybe USAF Para-rescue. Could be dead wrong but thats my guess.
