    bottom line.

i was a pack and a half - two pack a day hard smoker (newports, winstons, marloro reds). you will never quit until you are mentally strong enough to quit. its fuckled up but you can beat those first few days of pure misery. in fact, enjoy it. smoke shit tons of weed, drink a glass of whiskey but when that little voice kicks in your head nad tells you to smoke tell it to fuck itself.

youre mind is stronger than anything you can imagine. tell yourself over and over that you quit. cigarettes are a waste of money, they inhidbit you from being a complete human being. they fuck you mind body and soul. if you are weak you will still smoke. most people are weak, so chances are this won't help you. you are probably a pussy who will continue to smoke.

All of this, I smoked for 14 years and I stopped cold turkey. Just stop fucking doing it, it isn't the easiest thing in the world to do, but it is not hard. It's harder to go without a cell phone than smoking.
  2. I smoked cigarettes for about 15 years every day. I never wanted to quit but the ill effects of smoking were starting to get to me - lungs were hurting and always felt some what sick. Then I found while browsing the net about electronic cigarettes. When I picked my first personal vapourizer from the post office and got the gadget pluggeg in, have not smoked a single puff of a cigarette since. That was about 20 months ago.
Gotvapes.com has good quality products + is cheaper than other companies (postage is 5$- worldwide tops!) . There are sites that sell much worse products for twice or even five times the cost that they do
I see vaping as upgrading to a better and a healthier habit and I can still enjoy that nicotine high.
In the future inhaling products of burning will be greatly sneered upon not to speak of all the chemical compounds added or intrinsic to "analog" cigarettes which there are over 4000 according to what ive read.
I still vape almost everyday and enjoy all the benefits of nonsmokers.

  3. 1. Talk to professionals on a weekly basis.
    2. Set a quit date.
    3. Log how many cigarettes you are smoking on a week by week basis.
    4. Reduce the # of cigarettes you smoke the following week by 1.
    5. Have stuff like water/celery on hand to get you over any craving(s) you may have. One thing to remember is that cravings last a couple of minutes. I used sugarless candy to keep myself occupied but be warned, these give you gas.
    6. Once you have reduced enough or reached your quit date, purchase the patch. Insomnia was common with me but not too bad.

Good luck, you can do it. I smoked for 26 years but said to myself that I was going to quit before my boy was big enough to see me do it without having to hide. I started speaking to professionals last January, thought I would quit for May long weekend but ended up stopping in March. Next Friday will be 10 months smoke free.

PS: Habits are created/broken after 6 weeks, keep that in mind.
  4. so are electronic cigs not bad for you at all? have not researched them much.

  5. today is my two weeks smoke free. easy after the first 3 days. every time i wanted a smoke, i ate two jolly ranchers. every time i got pissed off or stressed out, i did push ups. just quit. don't be a pussy.

    Yes asprin is kinda weak

also those pills seem to have some severe side effects from everyone I have heard from

unless you want to quit you wont, if you do want to quit it is easy
  7. Long time lurker, first time poster here. I was talking about this topic with friends today and a few that have quit suggested to switch to an all natural cig like American Spirit or something like that for a few weeks. Their rational is that the all natural cigs don't have the ammonia and the other 460 plus chemicals that are put in normal cigs that your body is addicted to. By switching to a natural cig, you can ween yourself off the other chemicals and additives separately from the actual nicotine that you're addicted to. Their advice is to switch to a natural cig for a few weeks and then just go cold turkey from there once your not craving all those other chemicals that are put into normal cigs. I have three separate friends who have quit using this method. GLGLGL, I'm going to try this method in the next week or so.

No shit. 2008 and 1st post. Nice. And representing Saginaw too.

Chantix works real well. I had been smoking during the summer months since age 11 and full time since I was 16. Call me weak, a pussy or whatever you want, but cold turkey never worked for me. I'm sure a 10 year bad marriage didn't help either.

When my insurance sent me a notice that they were paying 100% for Chantix, I snap called the doctor and got a prescription. I heard about the psychotic/suicidal thoughts side effects, but those test subjects were probably already fucked in the head to begin with.

Chantix essentially activates the nicotine receptor in your brain telling you that you don't need to smoke. Without having the nicotine cravings/fits, it's now up to you to control the "habit" cigarettes. The after sex cigarette, the smoke on the ride to work, the one right after a meal, or whatever your "habit" smokes are.

If you are indeed weak willed, like myself, having my brain think it was full of nicotine made it much easier for me to quit. I'm 38 years old and had been a smoker for well over half my life. Chantix worked wonders for me and I'd highly recommend it.

  11. Cutting back never helped me.

Only way I quit was cold turkey, and it makes me a little proud of myself every time I go to a convenience store and not want to buy cigs.I do recommend chewing something constantly for the first few days, personally tea tree sticks worked great for me.

Good luck brother, the first 2-4 days are a bitch but after I got the first day or 2 down I knew how pissed off Id be if I cheated after coming so far (mentally)

    Good luck.
  12. *Update*

I'm on day 15 smoke free. I'm on the patch right now and its working great. Got the 3 step ones. Step 1 is 21milligrams, Step 2 is 14milligrams and Step 3 is 7milligrams. I have breath mints, gum, etc to keep my mouth and hands busy. So far, so fkn good. I really dont crave a cigarette anymore. The first two days were rough but I forced myself to think of other things.

I'm sleeping through the night now which is awesome. I can insta-smell a smoker now lolz. Anyways, I was a heavy smoker and to go 15 days without a smoke is mind bottling....here's to another 15 days! Thanks for the tips guys, they were really helpful~

  15. The New york Giants held up their end of the bargain by winning the bowl now it's my turn to quit smoking(my task is slightly easier lol). It's only 2 days but Im pretty good at going cold turkey and Can't envision me lighting up anything that isnt green anytime soon.

Glo I'm backto quitting you mutha fucka and were gonna wax that dukie ass tommorow
  16. As long as I live I will never understand the smoking/quitting smoking thing. It's the world's all time greatest scam. I realize it's addictive, even though I don't smoke. But I never understood how it can be so hard to not do something that you don't want to do. Just don't buy any more cigarettes. Literally, don't drive to the store and by them for a couple of days. It really can't be that hard.
  17. smokers are pathetic
  18. it's all in your head man. convince yourself that you're REALLY done this time and that quitting will drastically improve your life in a bunch of different ways. from there, just tough it out and you'll start feeling better in no time. it really is in your head. dealing w/ the physical w/d symptoms should be the easy part.

It isn't, it's just weak willed people circle jerking each other so they feel better about themselves.
  21. I know all the non-smokers itt already know just about everything in the world... but you tards might not realize the majority of smokers don't want to quit. they smoke because they enjoy it and don't give a fuck what self-righteous dildos think about them.
  22. Doctor was told and then passed this analogy along to me, "Think of cigarettes as a girlfriend that you don't want to be with anymore. You'll think of her when she is gone but you don't want her back".

Also, when you smoke you want to quit and when you quit you'd like to smoke without all the negatives. To eliminate the vicious circle, don't start back up.

PS: All the non-smokers will NEVER understand how addictive this habit really is. Trust me, if all smokers could "just quit" with that type of ease, we would.

    PSS: Mentally weak? LOL GTFO.

Which is why I said what I said. How can it be so hard to quit doing something you don't want to do? It just sounds so stupid to say "I want to quit smoking, please help." I realize non-smokers sound like elitest pricks to smokers, but to me it has to all be in your head. I mean you have to get in your car, drive to a store, pay $8 or whatever, and start smoking. You can't stop doing that? Just seems weird.
  24. I smoked a pack and a half a day for 10+ years, my pops smoked for 30+ years, I have friends who have smoked for just as long. All of us stopped cold turkey and didn't whine about it. You have to want to quit, that's it. People trying to act like quitting smoking is the same as getting off a heroine problem is a joke. It's a mental thing, it's a habit, break it.

Like I posted in this thread before, it isn't the easiest thing in the world to do, but don't try and act like it's that hard.
  25. yea, addiction isn't something you can appreciate objectively. sorry.

I'm just pointing out that the vast majority of smokers continue to smoke because they enjoy it and they want to keep smoking. that might be obvious to the geniuses itt but I don't care.

ftr I know more former smokers that were successful in quitting than smokers who tried to quit unsuccessfully. I'd guess smokers are batting at >50% so yes, it's doable. surely if they put as much effort into quitting as non-smokers put into bitching then big tobacco would be gone overnight.

What is it then, if it's not mental weakness?? LOL GTFO is not an explanation, you fucking clown.

PSS: Former smoker, pack of Newport's a day for 3+ years. Former pill popper, 1-2 a day for >1 year. Quit both, cold turkey. IT'S IN YOUR FUCKING HEAD.

EDIT: I know what it's like to justify doing something that destroys your body, so call it what you want bro, but don't try to spin it off as some kind of fact.

  27. Although many people in this thread poop on the idea, this has worked for myself and many of my smoker friends. Marijuana is key.

    1. Take 1 week off of work and all obligations. Stay away from all cig smokers.
    2. Buy a bag of weed and papers.
    3. Roll weed into super skinny joints with about 15% cig tobacco mixed in. Smoke whenever cravings are too strong.
    4. After 3 days of this, quit adding tobacco and just smoke the weed.

If you smoke the weed and are still dying for a cigarette, then u need to smoke more weed!! Smoke it til you fall asleep if you want. JUST DONT FUCKING SMOKE A CIGARETTE.
After 1 week, the hard part is over.

    youre welcome
  28. Its true....you have to WANT to quit first. I fkn enjoyed smoking. I loved lighting up and feeling that smoke hit my lungs then just exhaling slowly. I enjoyed it son!!! But yeah, due to certain factors I wanted to quit and sfobv its one of the worst habits in the world plus I'm paying 410 yen for a pack of smokes.......shit gets expensive real fast.

  29. Im on day four of being nicotine free!!! I have been smoking a pack a day for like 17 years. Had my last one thursday night, and decided that when I woke up friday I was done. No patches, no gum, no e cigs. Ive tried all those and they all keep me hooked on nicotine which lead me back to smoking cigs. I took friday off work, and just ran and worked out and ate alot. It wasnt super easy but it wasnt super bad either. I just keeped out of my car and alternating working out and resting. Gotta keep off of them now for good. That stuff is brutal.
  30. Update: I hit day 30 of being cigarette free. Damn, it feels good. Stopped using the patch and been on my "own" for 5 days now. Weeee!!!!!
