This comic remind me of a discussion my roommate and I had a long time ago about what our all-time basketball shooting percentage was, including games, warmups, practices, HORSE, trick shots, free throw contests, pickup games, being three years old and throwing the ball halfway up towards a ten foot hoop without a chance of it going it, etc. EVERYTHING. For every single time you threw a basketball at a hoop hoping it would go in, what percent went in? This is why I wish God existed, so he could tell us this stat.

Even after talking about it for a while we didn't really make any headway into estimating an answer. My gut tells me it would be something around 25% or so for me. What about you OT?

In games i was prolly a 48-54 percent shooter most of my career, depending on what kind of team i was on. On the teams where i was the best player like freshman year of high school, high 40's, but teams where i was more of a puzzle piece i def shot in 54-60 pct range, so balance those out. more of a big man back then...Obv in the mens leagues i shoot like 40 pct tops now, so lol...with like 25-30 pct from 3's tho i didn't shoot them very often. As for free throws i wasn't super strong, probably high 60's. I definitely shot better than a 50 pct clip in fuckin games with friends, i get on the court and get going im a prooooooooooblem obviously. Then factor in shooting around where you're atleast in the 55 pct range i probably have got a good solid 50 percent career shooting percentage. I dig this conversation... good thread.

I sent an email to sportsguy once saying that I hope when we die we get to review our lifetime stats for any and everything.
I would think mine would be decently high bc I had an adjustable rim in my yard and I spent a lot of time dunking on it. If we only include a regulation rim, that would reduce it quite a bit.

baseball BA: .240 (thru 10th grade)
softball BA: .675
**i mean, from birth till now, prob lower than 35%. But for the few years i did play bball, i only shot lay ups. -
The OT superhuman athletes are about to come out.

Must of been a forward or Center with that high of a shooting %, I got to be somewhere around 30% lifetime. Damn i miss playing competively.

like thinking about that makes me want to convert to some form of religion hoping this might be the case
I still have log books from my fresh/soph years of high school how many points i dropped and the scores of the games...l I used to be obsessed with stats, shit i'd keep track of how many assists i got in my head and shit while i played sometimes... probably not the best thing to do, but i swear fucked around and got trip dub one game son.

yea i was a 4 for sure 6'4 is huge when you're 14, prolly shrunk an inch at least since lol. -
i've struck out to end a few games.
-
Ding ding ding, I swear when anyone asks me what is life after death I tell them I am standing in front of a giant statistics board and I can see every stat possible throughout my lifetime.. like how many steps i've taken, how much money i've given out vs taken in .. etc etc!

My first year playing organized basketball when I was 6 years old I scored one basket the whole year, it was for the wrong team and we were playing girls.
Can I count that in my %? If yes then i shot about 5% if not then I'm at a solid 0%. -
you could have been the token white guy on the team at my high school
-
Gotta be under 15% for me, i am a horrible shot and i miss easy layups. I did crush my 8 year old nephew this weekend tho. I even dunked on him like a dick and blocked him like 6 times. He is hyper competitive so I felt it was justified.

including all the HORSE, being a kid stuff you talked about, I'm sure everyone's stats are pretty shitty - at the same time, think about practice. lots of free throws, and lots of layups- AND if you think of all the one on one games - who takes a bunch of shots outside 10-12 feet? I think the 20-25% range would probably be about right or possibly even on the low side.
-
you're doing it wrong.

you think shooting from the arc is better than driving inside playing one on one?

to eyeknows, obv -
my best athletic moment came in a shooting drill.
in JV basketball one saturday morning our coach was setting us up for a new drill. there would be 30secs on the clock and the shooter would start in one corner behind the 3pt line. his partner would stand at the foul line. on go, the shooter would shoot, then get his own rebound, pass to his partner and run to the other corner 3pt shot. when he got there his partner would pass to him for another shot. the drill would continue with shot, get rebound, pass and go to other corner.
coach called me out to shoot and a teammate to be my partner. as the team watched, he said go. i went 6 for 6, hitting the last shot as the buzzer sounded. im not even sure 7 for 7 is possible in the given time.
prob the most impressive thing i have ever done physically. i aslo prob went like 1 for 6 the next time.
i think he misunderstood what u wrote. u both think that driving and getting close is better. -

generally prefer to not play w my back to the hoop (if I don't have to), use my jump shot to get inside easier. but if they are giving me the jump shot I will always take it. -
Probably around 70%. Use to get a lot of Boomshakalakas and Hes on Fire when I played
-
I've always wondered this. In basketball I would guess ~40%. I've mostly wondered how many times I've thrown a baseball or swung a baseball bat. Gotta be in the millions. Good thread

'bout tree-fiddy . . .
Well, SOMEBODY was gonna post it. -
everyone itt is about 20-30% too high. lol NBAers
-
Mine is 100%. True story . . . tried a free throw once in grade 3. Made the shot, but decided I hated basketball. Never threw another one.
-
I think 40%-50% is reasonable if you played basketball, just thinking how many thousands of layups and post moves I've shot in practice has to dramatically boost the percentage.
-
dont know if i can believe anyone whose saying higher then 20% for every shot ever.
