Was just given his letter of outright release from the University of Michigan...
Good kid, family trouble and homesickness got the best of him. At least 3 concussions and still had a pretty good freshman year.
Only if Michigan fans would have seen him as a 4 star running back recruit and not the return of Jesus Christ himself. -
TCU is the early rumor, but it is just that, rumor...
His statement said he wants to stay close to home and listed TCU, A&M, Oklahoma State and a couple more I missed.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Houston native confirmed to Rivals.com that he received his official release from the university Friday morning.

</td></tr><tr><td align="center">Sam McGuffie, a Houston native, is looking to transfer closer to home.</td></tr></tbody></table>"I just got out of the compliance office and picked up my release," McGuffie said. "They gave me a full release no restrictions. I will be somewhere else in January."
McGuffie says the decision to transfer was not an easy one and he did not take it lightly.
"It's just been weighing on me for a while," he said. "There are a number of factors that went into [the decision]. It's nothing against the Michigan football team or the university. I felt that I had to what is best for myself and my family."
McGuffie does not have a future destination set, but he did mention that he would prefer to be closer to his hometown.
"I'm looking to stay in or around Texas," he said. "There are a couple of schools that I had them send my release to - Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU and Oklahoma State."
He did say that Texas A&M would likely be considered the front-runner as of right now.
"They were one of my top teams last year," McGuffie said of the Aggies. "I have a former teammate, Chris Lathrop, that signed with them last year and he loves it. I've talked to him a bunch about it. I know a lot of guys on the team there and I have a bunch of friends from home that go there, too."
McGuffie, a four-star prospect coming out of Cy-Fair High School a year ago, made a significant contribution as a freshman with the Wolverines this year. He started the first six games of the season and finished as the team's second-leading rusher and third-leading receiver, despite missing two games with injuries.
His best performance of the year came against Notre Dame, where he rushed for 138 yards and had four receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown. He ended the season with 535 yards and three touchdowns rushing as well as 19 receptions for 175 yards and one touchdown. In addition, he averaged 21.1 yards on seven kickoff returns.
McGuffie will have to sit out a year if he transfers to another Football Bowl Subdivision (Division I-A) school. He will then have three years of eligibility remaining. -
he grew up in Cy Falls which is a suburb of Houston so he will go back to somewhere in TX i am sure.

mcguffie is a beast...u of m is a freakin joke, first they let mallett go to arkansas (he was going to be a stud he Jr and Sr year) and then they let sam mcguffie go?!?!?!? mcguffie and mallett were going to lead u of m back into a top 25 school. lol, the wolverines are going to have 2 or 3 more losing seasons before they get back to anything that resembles a top 25 team. i love it!!!!
-
Mallett and his 4.9 speed wasn't exactly a good fit for Rich Rod's system.
-
i 100% realize that, but when you have someone as talented on your team as mallett you find ways to implement him...i guess rich rod thought he could get pryor and mallett didnt wanna play for rod, so its understandable he left. its just funny the position u of m put themselves in...hiring rich rod and an ENTIRELY different football system is going to take a long while ti implement. rich rod will have to be there for a good 3 or 4 years until his changes can even begin to take affect. and when they do who knows if they will really pay dividends for MI. only time will tell, and losing mcguffie isnt going to help speed up the process thats for sure

I am a huge Michigan fan and it is sad to see McGuffie go but we will be fine at running back with Brandon Minor and Carlos Brown being back as both of them were hurt most of the season but when they played they did well and Michael Shaw who is a true freshman and actually played way better then McGuffie did once he got the chance to play. McGuffie is a good player but it will not hurt the team. And they will go through a 6-6 or 7-5 year next year but in 2 years if there 2 quarterback recruits Shavodrick Beaver and Tate Forcier develop they will have a solid team.
And BTW did you watch Ryan Mallet his freshman year at Michigan when Henne was hurt he tripped over his feet every other play and couldn't hold on to the damn ball...I will admit he has a good arm but he is not as good as you think he is besides he is so fcking slow. -
mcguffie might not have broken a tackle all year, AND he's not real fast. there's no way he can be an every-down running back. one year in college and he had three concussions.
-
^^ If Mcguffie can stay concussion free he will be a good back anywhere he chooses to go. Michigan is more than capable of filling his role at running back though with Brandon Minor and Carlos Brown returning as seniors next year, Micheal Shaw (Freshman) who took Mcguffies starting role when he went down. Not to mention (2) 4 star recruits in Fitzgerald Toussaint (OH) and Jeremy Gallon (FL) and another (2) 3 star recruits in Teric Jones (Mi) & Vincent Smith (FL).
One thing Michigan does not lack is quality backs.
